No Bundesliga title yet for Bayern Munich

Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich will have to put the champagne back on the ice after they failed to win their fourth consecutive Bundesliga this weekend courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach. The Bavarians had the chance to claim the title with a win but Thomas Muller’s first half strike was cancelled out by Andre Hahn and it means the defending champions will have to wait until at least next weekend to be crowned champions.Key players David Alaba, Robert Lewandowski, Douglas Costa, Thiago Alcantara and Philip Lahm all started on the bench with Alaba, Costa and Thiago all second half substitutes. Bayern came into the game 7 points ahead of closest rivals Borussia Dortmund and would seal the title with a win but it wasn’t meant to be after they couldn’t see out Monchengladbach while Borussia Dortmund got a comfortable 5-1 win over VFL Wolfsburg.Despite the draw, Bayern would’ve been champions irrespective had it been Borussia Dortmund failed to win against Champions League quarter-finalist VFL Wolfsburg but a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and other goals from Marco Reus, Adrian Ramos and Shinji Kagawa ensured that Schurrle’s strike was just a consolation as Tuchel’s men ran out comfortable 5-1 winners which means they’re just 5 points behind Bayern with just two games left.Bayern’s draw came days after a frustrating 1-0 loss against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semifinal first leg tie and will have the return fixture on Tuesday in mind. They play against mid-table side Ingolstadt in their next League game and then host relegation-threatened team Hannover days later while Dortmund will go head-to-head against Frankfurt in their next game and then FC Cologne on the final day.
