Barcelona, Real Madrid
Atletico Madrid are officially out of the title race in La Liga after they lost to already-relegated Levante 2-1 away from home while both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid came out victorious against Espanyol and Valencia respectively which means the Spanish League is still undecided and will go down until the last minute of the season.Atletico Madrid started the game in second place, joint on points with FC Barcelona at the top and knew they won’t get it easy in a stadium they’re yet to get a victory in the last 5 games. Striker Fernando Torres put Atletico Madrid in the lead early on through a fine finish but the lead wouldn’t last long as Levante’s Victor Casadesus got the equalizer for the hosts 30 minutes later. The game continued that way until Guiseppe Rossi stole the show on 90 minutes with a superb goal from a counter to end Simeone’s men’s title hopes.Real Madrid played host to Valencia in a must-win encounter and got a hard-fought 3-2 victory thanks to a brace from star man Cristiano Ronaldo and a goal from Karim Benzema. Ronaldo put Real Madrid in the lead on 26 minutes with a finely placed shot to the bottom left corner of the goal. Valencia missed a glorious chance to equalize moments later and were punished when Benzema doubled Madrid’s lead with an easy goal although replays showed he was offside twice in the build-up. Rodrigo pulled one back for Valencia 10 minutes into the second half but Ronaldo scored his 33rd goal of the season five minutes later to give Madrid a 3-1 lead. Andre Gomes put Los Blancos in panic mode after he scored Valencia’s second goal with 10 minutes left to play but Pako Ayestaran’s team got a mental blow two minutes later as Rodrigo was given a red card for dissent. 3-2 it ended in Madrid’s favour.FC Barcelona got a convincing 5-0 win against neighbours Espanyol with all of the MSN trio getting on the score sheet. Lionel Messi opened the scoring for the Catalans with a sublime direct freekick. Rakitic got a goal wrongly ruled out for offside but it was all too easy for Barcelona as Luis Suarez doubled their lead just 7 minutes into the second half. Suarez scored his second ten minutes later to maintain his 4-goal lead over Ronaldo for the top scorer race. Substitute Rafinha Alcantara made it 4-0 while Neymar finished off the rout 7 minutes from time to make it 5-0.Atletico Madrid are officially out of the title race which means Barça and Real Madrid will be part of a last matchday drama. Barcelona just need a win to be Champions and they take on Granada away next week. Real Madrid will travel to the Riazor to face Deportivo and will need nothing less than a win and hope Barça drop points.
