Gerrard: I was disappointed Liverpool didn’t sign Alli

Former England midfielder Steven Gerrard has revealed his disappointment with the decision of Liverpool not to sign Anglo – Nigerian Dele Alli as his replacement prior to his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old Alli has blossomed for the White Hart Lane outfit in the Premier League so much so that he has been promoted to the senior England squad and has appeared 4 times for the Three Lions since his debut against Estonia.

“He looks ahead of me as far as England games and appearances are concerned, ” Gerrard said to London Evening Standard.

“I was actually disappointed Liverpool didn’t sign him. I thought he was certainly a player Liverpool might’ve tried to go for, especially with me coming to the end.

“He’s certainly a player that could play for Liverpool for 15 years, he’s got that ability.”

Alli has returned to London after helping Tottenham Hotspur qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night.
