Under-23 Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has stated that it will be difficult getting key Nigerian foreign-based players to come and play in the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
In a chat with Brila FM, Siasia posited that the nature of the tournament will make it hard for the players to honour the invitation.
“It’s going to be difficult convincing some of these guys (foreign-based players) to come and play because it is not a FIFA competition and it doesn’t fall in the FIFA calendar,” Siasia said.
Siasia however said he will focus on the players on the ground and work on the team’s deficiencies.
“We will have to concentrate and work hard on the players we have. We just have to improve on the areas that we are lacking so that when they (foreign-based players) don’t show up, we won’t be disappointed,” Siasia said.
The U-23 Eagles will face Egypt, Algeria and Mali in Group B of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
The team finished third in the men’s soccer event of the just concluded All Africa Games in Brazzaville.
