NPFL: Warri Wolves striker Okafor hopes for more games, sets 12 goal target

Warri Wolves striker, Onyekachi Okafor has expressed his delight at netting his first goal for the club more so in his first home start.
The striker was signed from relegated side, Crown FC after ending the season with 10 goals, but has barely featured for the star-studded Warri Wolves side. Against Lobi Stars however he not only got his first home start but his strike guaranteed the maximum points for his side.
“It’s a great feeling for me,” Okafor disclosed to www.npfl.ng. “It’s a long-awaited opportunity for me because since I joined Warri Wolves I’ve only started once and it was away. This is the first time I’m starting a home game. I thank God for the goal and I know this goal has opened the door for more goals to come.”
Talking of more goals, the striker is looking to go further than he did all of last season. He says he is aware of the magnitude of the challenge which begins with nailing down a more regular place in the team.
“I scored 10 goals last season at Crown so if I can score up to 12 goals this season, then that will be good. Coming to Warri Wolves is a big challenge for me and I have to perform better than I did at Crown FC. In the team here there are a lot of stars who play in the national team. You see many Super Eagles players, players who are called for national assignments. Crown FC has a lot of good players but Warri Wolves is an upgrade, it’s a big team,” he admitted.
“So it is a big challenge but as a footballer, you always want to progress, you always want to move higher. When you come to a new club, there are some people who been there before you, so you just have to take up the challenge and prove to the coach what you can do.
“I just have to work harder and score more goals. If I keep scoring more goals I believe I will have a place in the team.”-NPFL Website
