Lionel Messi Voted The Best Player In Uefa Champions League’s History

The Barcelona talisman was voted the best player to ever grace the Champions League picking up more than double the percentage of his closest rival Zinadine Zidane.


A large part of Europe’s football fans see Barcelona’s frontman Lionel Messi as the best player in the history of the Uefa Champions League tournament.
This survey was carried out by MasterCard as part of the Build up to the highjy anticipated UCL Final clash between Barcelona and Juventus on June 6.

Messi obtained an astonishing 27% of the votes which was carried out by citizens of different Countries.
Former Real Madrid and France midfielder Zinedine Zidane scooped second spot, far from Messi 12%.
Just below Zizou lies Real Madrid goal-poacher Cristiano Ronaldo, with 11%, followed by the Brazilian legendary number 9 Ronaldo Nazario de Lima with 7% and then former England international David Beckham rounded up the top 5 with 4% of the votes.

Interestingly, most of Messi’s votes were from personalities who have been following the sport for long as 33% of those over the age of 55 felt that the Argentine was the best ever Champions League player to date.
By country, Lionel Messi won the vote in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, Turkey, Hungary and Russia. Cristiano Ronaldo won in his home town Portugal and Zidane in France.
