Victor Osimhen's real transfer situation at Galatasaray has been revealed, following speculation that he could leave the club this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen's future has been the subject of a lot of transfer talk over the past year. He joined the Cimbom from Napoli last year in a deal worth €75 million, and he has continued to string together brilliant performances for them.

In the just-concluded campaign, he contributed 22 goals and eight assists for Galatasaray. As a result, he has attracted interest from several top sides like Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray.
Although the 27-year-old recently announced that he loved Galatasaray and was unwilling to switch clubs, it has been the general belief that he would fancy playing for a traditional top club.

So, when Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle announced that Victor Osimhen had been ruled out of the upcoming international friendly games against Poland and Portugal, it raised eyebrows.

Coach Eric Chelle, of Nigeria Super Eagles.
He said, “Concerning Victor Osimhen, he is an important player for Nigeria and Galatasaray. This period is off-season, when a lot of things happen off-the-pitch, and we must respect certain decisions that are not in our hands.”

His comments had a torpedo effect, as it was quickly assumed that the Nigerian was expecting a transfer. However, that might not be the case.

Victor Osimhen's Transfer Situation Confirmed

Following Eric Chelle's big statement and the effect it had, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano shared an update concerning Victor Osimhen.

According to Fabrizio, neither Osimhen nor Galatasaray are in talks with anyone for a transfer this summer.

”I just spoke on the phone with Eric Chelle about the comments he made regarding me in his latest interview,” Osimhen said.

”Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and exaggerated. He has tremendous respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our matches, and had no intention of creating any controversy.

”I am grateful for this conversation and for the opportunity to always represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him. He is a fantastic coach whom I respect greatly, and I ask everyone to disregard any speculation on this matter. Thank you for your support.”

Osimhen still has three years left on his Galatasaray contract, and since he earns way more than what most clubs in the top five leagues would be willing to pay, he is happy to stay in Istanbul.

Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has shared his thoughts on the UEFA Champions League final clash between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The North London club, fresh from winning their first Premier League title in 22 years, had hoped to finally end their long wait for UCL glory. However, they were denied on penalties by the defending champions in a thrilling final.

Arsenal were playing in their second UCL final and took the lead inside six minutes after Kai Havertz rifled into the top corner after a quick break.

PSG dominated possession from that point, while Arsenal were very solid in defence. However, their resistance was finally broken in the second half when Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was fouled by Cristhian Mosquera.

Gabriel of Arsenal looks on after Eberechi Eze of Arsenal.
After 120 minutes of deadlock, the match went to penalties. Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães missed for Arsenal, while only Nuno Mendes failed to convert for PSG, as the French side sealed a 4–3 shootout victory to successfully defend their title.

Godwin Okpara explains what Arsenal could have done better vs PSG

Arsenal had the best defensive record heading into the final, and their tactical battle against PSG’s powerful attack proved decisive throughout the game.

It even appeared Arsenal had done enough to manage the big occasion, with their game plan working for long spells as PSG were allowed plenty of possession without creating clear chances, until they were handed a lifeline through Dembele’s penalty.

Speaking after the match, former Strasbourg and Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara believed Arsenal’s approach worked for most of the game, but they ultimately fell short due to a lack of full concentration until the end.

Godwin Okpara in action for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

“For them, for Arsenal, I think they did all they could, just that luck. You know, when you're in a game like that, in a final game like that, and you got the first goal, and you can't even put the second goal, that will be a pressure on you”, the former PSG defender told Soccernet.ng in an exclusive interview.

Next year, they can still do it again.”

A great game of football

The former PSG defender also praised the high tactical level of the encounter, which lasted 120 minutes and became the first Champions League final in 10 years to go to a penalty shootout.

Okpara, who had predicted a win for his former side before the match, also applauded PSG for successfully defending their title, becoming the first team since Real Madrid (2015–2018) to achieve such a feat.

I think they might be the first club to do that. So, I mean, it's a good thing for them, and it's unfortunate for Arsenal, who would have been their first time of winning it too. But I think both teams made history and it was a wonderful game for both teams”, Okpara concluded.

PSG will now face Aston Villa, who defeated Freiburg 3–0 in the Europa League final, in the UEFA Super Cup scheduled for August 12, marking the start of the 2026–27 European season.

Africa's most successful women's national team will take on the Teranga Lionesses in two matches as preparations continue for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The two West African rivals are scheduled to meet on June 5 before facing each other again three days later in what promises to be an important test for both sides ahead of the continental showpiece.

Head coach Justine Madugu has named a strong squad led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and veteran striker Asisat Oshoala for the upcoming friendlies.

The list features several players who enjoyed impressive seasons across Europe. Nottingham Forest forward Joy Omewa receives another opportunity to establish herself in the national team, while Everton midfielder Toni Payne and Galatasaray center-back Tosin Demehin are also included.

London City Lionesses defender Rofiat Imuran earns a recall to the national team as does Dynamo Brest's forward Blessing Nkor.

Madugu has also handed recalls to experienced midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and forwards Francisca Ordega and Gift Monday. The coach has also rewarded Turkey-based midfielder Kafayat Shittu with a place in the squad as she looks to make her mark at senior international level.

There is room for home-based goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, Israel-based defender Sikiratu Isah and defender Tosin Demehin. Midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Jennifer Echegini have also been selected, alongside forward Folashade Ijamilusi and Omorinsola Babajide.

The squad also includes Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide, three players who recently celebrated league title successes with their respective clubs during the recently concluded season.

Important WAFCON preparation for Super Falcons and Senegal

The Super Falcons will host Senegal at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo, providing Madugu with another chance to assess his squad ahead of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The friendlies come at a crucial time for both nations. Senegal have been drawn in Group A of the 2026 WAFCON alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.

Nigeria, who remain the most successful team in the history of the competition with 10 continental titles, will compete in Group C against Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi.

With the competition set to run from July 25 to August 16, every match before the tournament carries significant importance. The Super Falcons are aiming to reclaim continental dominance and secure qualification for the next FIFA Women's World Cup.

This edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations will also serve as Africa's qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. The top four teams at the tournament will qualify automatically for the global showpiece, while the fifth-placed side will enter an intercontinental playoff for a final chance to reach the World Cup.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were dealt a setback ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup after AIK forward Zadok Yohanna was forced to withdraw from the competition, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of Nigeria’s brightest prospects over the course of the year and earned a maiden call-up from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle following growing calls for his inclusion due to his impressive performances.

However, AIK prevented him from linking up with the national team due to concerns over his fitness after he was forced off during a league game against Djurgarden on May 10.

Nigeria, however, went on to secure an impressive 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semifinal and then defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the final to clinch a fourth consecutive Unity Cup title and extend their dominance in the competition.

Zadok Yohanna right scores 1-1 and celebrates for AIK.
Why Zadok Yohanna missed Super Eagles Unity Cup tournament

Super Eagles prospect Zadok Yohanna has continued to attract strong transfer interest from several clubs ahead of the summer window, following his impressive form for Swedish side AIK this season. The youngster only graduated from Ikon Allah Academy last year but has enjoyed a rapid rise in his career within a short period and could be on course for a big move in the near future.

The 18-year-old has recorded nine goal contributions in 12 appearances, making it an easy decision for coach Eric Chelle to include him in the Unity Cup squad, although he eventually did not link up with the team.

Zadok Yohanna reacts during the Allsvenskan football match between AIK and Halmstad. Copyright: JONATHANxNÄCKSTRANDxImago

Speaking to Soccernet.ng, Ikon Allah Academy CEO Mr Ayi Mohammed confirmed that Yohanna’s injury and rehabilitation prevented him from joining up with the national team for the Unity Cup tournament.

“The truth is that he had a knock on the leg, so there wasn’t enough time between when he was expected to resume training and the tournament”, Mohammed told Soccernet.ng exclusively.

“They had to allow him recover properly before rejoining the Super Eagles. That was what happened.”

Obilor Denzel Okeke and Zadok Yohanna.

Zadok Yohanna will now be hoping for another opportunity with the Super Eagles in the near future and could even be in contention for next month’s friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.

For now, uncertainty remains over his future at AIK, given the level of interest he has attracted ahead of the summer transfer window, with the likes of Brighton and Rennes reportedly leading the chase and a concrete offer could see him leave AIK this summer.

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie endured a painful afternoon at Wembley as Brighton & Hove Albion were beaten 4-0 by Manchester City in the Women's FA Cup final, Soccernet.ng reports.

However, despite the heavy defeat to the WSL champions, the Nigeria international still managed to avoid a piece of unwanted history.

Nnadozie arrived at the final hoping to win the first major trophy of her career in English football after joining Brighton from Paris FC last summer. Instead, she found herself under relentless pressure from a Manchester City side determined to complete a historic domestic double.

The scoreline was heavy, but it could have been even worse for Brighton without the 25-year-old's interventions. Nnadozie produced several important saves throughout the contest to keep City's tally at four goals. Had she conceded one more, she would have become the first goalkeeper in two decades to let in five goals in a Women's FA Cup final.

Nigeria and Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Copyright: IMAGO/TimxWilliams

That statistic will offer only limited comfort to the Nigerian international, who experienced another unwanted first. Since moving to England, Nnadozie had never conceded four goals in a single match. Before Sunday's final, the most she had allowed in a game was three, which happened against West Ham United and Manchester United during the Women's Super League season.

The final result also overshadowed what had been an impressive debut campaign in England. Nnadozie kept six clean sheets in 19 league appearances and added two more shutouts during Brighton's run to Wembley. Her performances were crucial as the Seagulls eliminated Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Arsenal to reach the club's first major cup final.

Brighton actually began the match brightly and looked capable of causing an upset. Fran Kirby found pockets of space around City's penalty area, Kiko Seike repeatedly threatened down the right flank and Maisie Symonds impressed in midfield. However, Dario Vidosic's side failed to make their early pressure count.

Nigeria and Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Copyright: xPropagandax IMAGO

Nnadozie down as Manchester City show class at Wembley

While Brighton struggled to convert their chances, Manchester City punished almost every mistake.

The breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute when Jamaica striker Khadija Shaw rose above Nnadozie to guide a looping header into the net. It was a cruel blow for Brighton after a promising start.

City doubled their advantage just before half-time. Captain Alex Greenwood stepped up to take a free-kick from around 20 yards and curled a precise effort beyond Nnadozie's reach to make it 2-0.

That goal effectively shifted the momentum permanently in City's favour.

Chiamaka Nnadozie. Photo by IMAGO

Manager Andree Jeglertz's side, already crowned Women's Super League champions three weeks ago, demonstrated the ruthless edge that has defined their season. Shaw continued to influence proceedings and later provided the assist for substitute Aoba Fujino, who struck City's third goal midway through the second half.

There was still time for another blow to Brighton. Dutch forward Vivianne Miedema, returning after missing the closing stages of the season for personal reasons, came off the bench to score City's fourth and final goal.

The victory secured Manchester City's fourth Women's FA Cup crown and completed a first-ever domestic double. It also capped a remarkable debut season for Jeglertz, who took charge after City had missed out on Champions League football last year.

Trabzonspor's Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has won the Goal of the Season award for the 2025/26 Süper Lig season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onuachu is coming off a brilliant campaign with his side in the Turkish Süper Lig. The 32-year-old marksman played some of his best football and scored goals aplenty for the Black Sea Storm.

He scored 22 goals and added two assists, meaning that he was involved in 39.3 percent of Trabzonspor's goals in the Süper Lig last season. His 22-goal haul also ensured that he won the Golden Boot.

Anthony Nwakaeme, Onuachu, and teammates. Copyright: IMAGO

For Onuachu last season, it wasn't just about the number of goals that he scored. It was the spectacular fashion in which those goals came.

Usually, many big strikers are known only for their strength and aerial ability. But Onuachu showed a different side to his game.

Just as he was banging in the goals from aerial situations, he was also devastating with the ball at his feet. Onuachu scored some beautiful goals, and one of them has been named the Süper Lig Goal of the Season for the campaign.

Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has lived in the shadows for much of his international career, Soccernet.ng reports.

Whenever Nigeria's midfield was discussed, the conversation usually centred on Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika or, more recently, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Yusuf was often present in the squad, but rarely at the centre of attention.

Yet football has a habit of rewarding patience. On a memorable night at The Valley in London, the 25-year-old midfielder produced the finest performance of his international career, scoring twice as Nigeria defeated Jamaica 3-0 to retain the 2026 Unity Cup.

It was a stunning display from the New England Revolution star who had also impressed against Zimbabwe four days earlier. He didn't score in that game but he showed his experience, authority, confidence and influence beside new boys Tochukwu Nnadi and Samson Tijani.

On the back of those performances, the Unity Cup may have changed everything for a player who has spent much of his Nigeria career waiting for opportunities.

Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
Alhassan Yusuf: The talent Nigeria noticed at AFCON

Yusuf's journey with the Super Eagles began under José Peseiro. The former Royal Antwerp midfielder was handed his major international breakthrough at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. In Nigeria's opening match against Equatorial Guinea, he looked fearless.

Despite making his tournament debut, he played with remarkable maturity. He covered ground aggressively, pressed opponents relentlessly and helped Nigeria control large parts of midfield. Many considered him Nigeria's standout performer during that game.

Then came the setback. A thigh injury suffered during the tournament disrupted his momentum at the worst possible moment. As Peseiro adjusted his system and Nigeria progressed deep into the competition, Yusuf found himself increasingly restricted to a supporting role.

Nigeria eventually reached the final before losing to hosts Ivory Coast, but Yusuf's opportunity to establish himself had already slipped away. The promise remained obvious but the consistent playing time did not.

Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf and Jamaica midfielder Brandon Cover. Copyright: xToyinxOshodixIMAGO

Lost in Super Eagles' midfield traffic

Few national teams in Africa possess as many midfield options as Nigeria.

Despite the constant change of Super Eagles coaches over the past couple of years, Ndidi remained the trusted defensive shield. Iwobi continued as the team's chief creator. Onyeka offered energy and aggression, Onyedika emerged as one of the continent's most exciting young midfielders while Dele-Bashiru added goals and attacking threat.

Breaking into that group was never going to be easy. As a result, Yusuf's international career became a story of sporadic appearances rather than sustained opportunities.

He featured in a few AFCON qualifiers, World Cup qualifying matches and international friendlies, mostly as a substitute. He rarely enjoyed a prolonged run in the starting eleven.

Even after moving to Major League Soccer with New England Revolution and maintaining strong club form, he often found himself watching crucial international matches from home or on the bench.

Super Eagles. Copyright: xToyinxOshodixIMAGO

Under Eric Chelle, the situation initially changed little. During several key World Cup qualifiers, Yusuf was either unused or limited to brief substitute appearances. Nigeria's pursuit of World Cup qualification and the 2025 AFCON campaign largely revolved around more established names.

Yusuf looked destined, for long periods, to remain one of the Super Eagles' most dependable squad players rather than one of their central figures.

Then came the Unity Cup. The 2026 Unity Cup arrived at a difficult moment for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles had already suffered the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Chelle used the tournament as an opportunity to experiment with personnel and assess players who had not enjoyed regular opportunities.

Yusuf grabbed that opportunity with both hands. His first major statement came in the semi-final against Zimbabwe.

Operating alongside Tochukwu Nnadi in midfield, he controlled the game's rhythm from start to finish. Whenever Zimbabwe attempted to launch attacks, Yusuf was there to break them up. Whenever Nigeria needed to progress forward, he was available to receive possession and move the team up the pitch. He even got into good positions and could have scored a goal or two.

Nigeria won 2-0 and reached the final. Yet even that impressive display would soon be overshadowed as the best was still to come.

Super Eagles. Copyright: IMAGO

Yusuf: The night Jamaica could not stop him

The Unity Cup final against Jamaica became the defining evening of Yusuf's international career.

Only four minutes had been played when he struck. A long throw from Kenneth Igboke created confusion inside the Jamaican penalty area. The goalkeeper failed to deal with the danger and Yusuf reacted quickest, smashing the loose ball into the net.

It was his first goal for Nigeria. Instead of sitting back after the early breakthrough, he took control of the contest.

Throughout the match, Yusuf dominated the midfield battle. He helped Chelle's men dictate the tempo with intelligent passing and movement s. Jamaica struggled to establish any rhythm because Yusuf was constantly disrupting their attacks.

Nigeria's midfield belonged to him. When Moffi doubled the lead later in the match, the final was effectively decided. But Yusuf still had one more moment to deliver.

Deep into stoppage time, Philip Otele launched a counter-attack and found the midfielder on the edge of the penalty area. Yusuf remained calm, opened his body and curled a beautiful finish into the corner. It was a goal that would have made Arsenal great Thierry Henry proud.

Yusuf scored twice, delivered a commanding midfield performance, making a firm statement that will be impossible for Chelle to ignore.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. Copyright: xToyinxOshodixIMAGO

Why Eric Chelle may have found a new midfield leader

Football careers can change quickly. True, one outstanding performance does not automatically guarantee a starting place, but Yusuf's Unity Cup displays may have altered the conversation around him.

More importantly, he solved problems Nigeria have struggled with for years. The Super Eagles often rely heavily on their attackers to create moments of magic. Against Jamaica, Yusuf demonstrated that he can contribute goals from midfield while still performing his defensive duties.

In his central midfield role, he offered energy without losing discipline, pressed without abandoning structure and attacked without neglecting his responsibilities. That balance is rare and those qualities may have warmed Yusuf into Chelle's heart.

Sadly, Yusuf will not be able to prove his worth during the Super Eagles' European tour this June. Chelle's immediate plans suffered a setback as visa issues have ruled Yusuf out of the friendly matches against Poland and Portugal. The timing was unfortunate because the midfielder had arguably become one of the coach's biggest success stories of the Unity Cup.

Yet the bigger picture remains encouraging. Yusuf has been viewed for years as a useful squad member who could fill gaps when required. The Unity Cup may have changed that perception.

At The Valley, he looked like a player capable of becoming a cornerstone of Nigeria's midfield rather than a backup option. After years on the fringes, Alhassan Yusuf finally stepped into the spotlight.

And if he continues performing at the level he reached against Jamaica, Eric Chelle may soon discover that leaving him out is no longer an option.

Arsenal star Eberechi Eze has received support from Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel following his costly penalty miss in the UEFA Champions League final loss to PSG on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Gunners faced PSG at the Puskas Arena in a highly anticipated final that eventually struggled to live up to the hype.

Arsenal took an early lead in the 6th minute through Kai Havertz, after which they adopted an ultra-defensive approach, keeping all eleven men behind the ball. PSG struggled to break down the Gunners' rigid defensive structure for much of the match.

Gabriel of Arsenal looks on after Eberechi Eze of Arsenal. Picture credit: ImagoxDavid Klein / Sportimage

However, the pressure from Les Parisiens finally paid off in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembele converted a penalty to level the score.

The game remained stayed at 1-1 through extra time, forcing a penalty shootout. Eze, who started on the bench, was introduced in extra time to replace Havertz. When the match went into spot-kicks, the Anglo-Nigerian was among the designated takers. However, he failed to deliver, as he dragged his effort wide.

Eberechi Eze and David Raya of Arsenal. Picture credit: ImagoxDavid Klein/Sportimage

While David Raya kept Arsenal’s hopes alive by saving Nuno Mendes’ penalty, Eze’s miss proved decisive after Gabriel Magalhaes subsequently fired his effort over the bar, ensuring that PSG ran out with the win.

Osayi-Samuel Backs Eberechi Eze After Arsenal Heartbreak

Eze has faced significant criticism for his penalty miss, but Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel has taken to social media to defend his friend. The 28-year-old shared a video of Eze with the caption, “Still the GOAT.”

Bright Osayi-Samuel backs Eberechi Eze. (Osayi-Samuel IG)

Osayi-Samuel’s public support is unsurprising. Asides from their shared Nigerian heritage, they both grew up playing football together and were teammates at Queens Park Rangers (QPR). Although Eze chose to represent England internationally and Osayi-Samuel committing to Nigeria, the two have maintained a close relationship.

The Arsenal star will now look to move past this disappointment as he shifts his focus toward representing England at the 2026 World Cup.

Super Eagles and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen could be on his way to the Premier League this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old faces uncertainty over his long-term future ahead of the summer transfer window after another outstanding campaign in Turkey and his performances have reportedly attracted attention from several European giants, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United.

Osimhen initially joined Galatasaray on loan in 2024 before the Turkish champions completed a permanent €75 million transfer the following summer. The Nigerian forward remains under contract until 2029, putting Galatasaray in a strong position to negotiate any deal.

The former Napoli star has enjoyed a remarkable spell in Turkey, scoring 59 goals in 74 appearances. He was also influential as Galatasaray secured a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title, scoring a brace in a 4-2 victory over Antalyaspor that confirmed the win and sealed his third trophy in two seasons.

Victor Osimhen with an arm protector during Galatasaray’s clash against Fenerbahçe.
Victor Osimhen: Manchester United monitoring Nigerian star

Osimhen's uncertain future has sparked growing interest from several top clubs across Europe, with Manchester United reportedly emerging as one of the strongest contenders for his signature.

According to reports, the Nigerian international has become a “dream” transfer target for the Red Devils as they prepare for a major squad rebuild this summer, as they look to return to mount a serious challenge domestically next season.

Following their return to the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United are expected to invest heavily in the transfer market. Reports suggest the club could have as much as £300 million available to strengthen the squad as they look to challenge for major honours under head coach Michael Carrick.

A new centre-forward is believed to be one of the club's priorities, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Joshua Zirkzee's future. Should the Dutch striker depart, Benjamin Sesko would be left as the club's only recognized senior striker, leaving room for another addition.

Galatasaray, Victor Osimhen. Copyright: xSeskimphotox IMAGO

While they are also considering alternatives with the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Dusan Vlahovic, and Robert Lewandowski also among their targets, Osimhen remains their preferred option.

“He still looks like the type of striker who could turn United into genuine title challengers. He brings pace, power, goals and presence, exactly what Old Trafford loves in a No. 9”, the report stated.

Manchester United have tracked Osimhen for several years, and club legend Paul Scholes has previously given his approval for a move for the Nigerian striker.

Deal not straightforward

Despite Manchester United's strong interest, the financial details of a potential transfer could prove to be the biggest obstacle.

Galatasaray signed Osimhen permanently for €75 million and have previously revealed their desire to keep the Nigerian forward. However, reports suggest the Turkish champions could consider offers well above €100 million if he pushes for a transfer.

The Nigerian forward also earns around €20 million per year in Turkey, and his salary demands could increase further if he moves to the Premier League due to tax demands. Manchester United, however, have become very cautious with their wage structure in recent years and might be reluctant to offer excessive salary demands.

Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray and his daughter celebrates victory with fans Copyright: xSeskimphotoxImago

The former Napoli forward was close to joining Chelsea in the summer of 2024, but negotiations eventually collapsed over personal terms, although a deal could happen this time around to Manchester United if an agreement can be reached.

The opportunity of playing in the Premier League could be a major attraction for Osimhen, especially after achieving success in Italy and Turkey and a move to the Red Devils would provide the Nigerian forward with an opportunity to test himself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

Paris Saint-Germain became the first team to win back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles since Real Madrid in 2017 after defeating Arsenal on penalties yesterday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

Mikel Arteta's side took the lead in the sixth minute, courtesy of a very pretty finish from Kai Havertz, who capitalised on Marquinhos' ricocheted clearance.

The Gunners immediately sat deep to protect their lead, forcing Paris Saint-Germain out wide and preventing them from mustering any goal attempts.

However, Arsenal got weary and were punished in the 62nd minute after Cristhian Mosquera fouled Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in his own box. Referee Daniel Siebert immediately pointed to the penalty spot.

Ousmane Demele makes it 1-1 during the Champions League Final match between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal at Puskas Arena Park, Budapest, Hungary.
Ousmane Dembele stepped up to take the resulting spot kick, sending David Raya the wrong way.

Mikel Arteta responded with several changes, bringing on Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Viktor Gyokeres, but none of them gave the Spaniard the result he required in the remaining minutes of the game up until the end of extra time.

In the penalty shootout, Eberechi Eze was the first to miss before Raya denied PSG's Nuno Mendes from 12 yards.

The final penalty fell to Gabriel Magalhaes, but the Brazilian skied his effort, and Luis Enrique's side were crowned Champions of Europe again.

Arsenal fans react to the UCL final loss against PSG

https://x.com/FansTribeHQ/status/2060845658102260136?s=20″If you watched the game, the referee was for them [PSG]. Let's be realistic, the foul on Madueke was a clear penalty,” Godfrey Peter said.

“I'm not blaming Arteta because the football we played was very good, but we did very well to get to the penalties; mistakes happen,” he concluded.

“It has been a fantastic tournament, we've played 66 games this season, and conceded just one penalty, which shows the team are very disciplined,” Tobi said.

“Any Arsenal fan who blames Arteta has to be filtered out of the fanbase,” he added.

“Everything PSG got was handed over to them. It was about what ifs. In the shootout, Safanov didn't make a save, so it was those little moments,” Adekola Joseph said.

“We fought hard, but it just didn't happen. There's a World where Eze shoots and is on target, same as Gabriel, but it didn't happen,” he added.

“We came so close, so I'm not complaining. I'm proud of all the players, and the coach, they gave their all,” Amara said.

“One thing about Arteta is that he gets better with each season, so I'm sure we'll dominate next season, and it'll be fantastic,” she concluded.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that four Super Eagles players, including star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, will miss the team's upcoming friendly matches against Poland and Portugal, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles are fresh from their successful Unity Cup campaign in London, where they defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the final to retain the trophy. However, Chelle revealed after the victory that several members of his squad will not be available for the next stage of Nigeria's June international programme.

Osimhen and Lookman were originally included in the squad list for the European tour, but circumstances outside the national team's control have ruled them out.

Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lukmon. Copyright: xVincentxKAMTOxIMAGO

The biggest absentee is Osimhen, who has been allowed to stay behind to focus on personal issues which may not be unconnected with his club future. The Nigeria striker is currently at the centre of transfer discussions involving Turkish champions Galatasaray, and the forward would want to concentrate fully on those negotiations rather than divide his attention between club and country.

Lookman will also miss the friendlies after a demanding season in European football. Atletico Madrid requested that the winger be excused from international duty so he could recover physically after months of intense action across domestic and continental competitions.

Nigeria's problems do not end there. Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze has also been excused from the squad following the recent funeral of his mother in Nigeria, leaving Chelle without another experienced attacking option ahead of the two matches.

Samuel Chukwueze of Fulham Copyright: xIMAGO

Super Eagles: Visa problems add to Chelle's selection headache

The Super Eagles have also lost two midfielders to administrative complications.

Alhassan Yusuf and Samson Tijani will not travel to mainland Europe because they were unable to secure the necessary visas in time. Since the Unity Cup was played in London, both players required additional travel clearance to enter the Schengen area for the fixtures in Poland and Portugal.

Their absence is particularly disappointing for Yusuf, who was one of Nigeria's standout performers in the Unity Cup final. The New England Revolution midfielder scored twice against Jamaica and appeared set to play a major role in Chelle's plans for the European tour.

Former Golden Eaglets captain Tijani, who recently earned a return to the national team setup, will also miss the opportunity to build on his comeback.

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi and coach Eric Chelle. Copyright: xshengolpixsxImago

To strengthen his depleted squad, Chelle has called up Millwall forward Femi Azeez. The attacker impressed during the Unity Cup, scoring both goals in Nigeria's 2-0 semi-final victory over Zimbabwe.

The coach is now expected to rely heavily on experienced attackers Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu and Akor Adams as the Super Eagles prepare for two difficult tests against European opposition.

Nigeria face Poland on June 3 at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw before taking on Portugal on June 10 at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria. Despite the notable absences, Chelle will hope his reshaped squad can continue the positive momentum generated by their successful Unity Cup campaign.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured an impressive 3-0 win over Jamaica on Saturday to emerge champions of the 2026 Unity Cup tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The final, played at The Valley in Charlton, London, saw the three-time African champions extend their dominant record in the competition, defeating the Reggae Boyz in a repeat of last year’s final.

Alhassan Yusuf’s brace and Terem Moffi’s header sealed the dominant win as Nigeria have now claimed all four editions of the Unity Cup since its inception, having previously lifted the trophy in 2002, 2004, 2025, and now 2026.

Nigeria midfielder Alhassan Yusuf celebrates with teammates after scoring.
Head coach Eric Chelle made only one change to the side that defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semifinal on Tuesday. Rafiu Durosinmi was introduced into the starting lineup to partner Terem Moffi and Femi Azeez in attack, while Philip Otele was dropped from the squad.

Jamaica, on the other hand, booked their place in the final after defeating India 2-0 in the other semifinal, with goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon.

Nigeria, wearing their white away kit, made the perfect start and took the lead after just three minutes. A long throw into the Jamaican penalty area caused confusion in the defence, and while goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke managed to parry the initial effort, Alhassan Yusuf reacted quickest to fire home the rebound and put the Super Eagles ahead.

The early goal allowed Nigeria to settle into the match and dictate proceedings. They controlled the tempo as Jamaica struggled to find a way through.

Nigeria continued to dominate for much of the first half, even though clear-cut scoring opportunities were limited. Moffi remained a constant threat with his movement and caused problems for the Jamaican defence throughout the opening period.

The Super Eagles comfortably carried their one-goal advantage into halftime, having controlled most aspects of the game.

Moffi doubles Nigeria’s lead

Jamaica midfielder Courtney Clarke and Nigeria forward Terem Moffi.
The second half picked up where the first left off, with Nigeria firmly in control of the game. However, they were given a brief scare when Dixon went down following a challenge from Arthur Okonkwo, but the referee waved away penalty appeals.

The incident appeared to spark the Super Eagles into life, and they doubled their advantage in the 59th minute. Azeez showed excellent footwork to beat his marker before delivering a pinpoint cross for Moffi to head home.

Azeez continued to be a constant threat and won a free kick on the edge of the box after he was brought down, but his attempt was well saved by Boyce-Clarke.

Yusuf adds late third to seal rout

The Super Eagles put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time with a devastating counter-attack. Substitute Philip Otele picked out Alhassan Yusuf with a perfectly weighted pass, and the midfielder kept his composure before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to seal a convincing 3-0 victory.

Super Eagles.
Nigeria emerged 3-0 winners at the final whistle to claim the 2026 Unity Cup title and strengthen their their remarkable record in the competition.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to upcoming international friendly matches against Poland and Portugal in June, before they begin preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled to commence in September.

The Super Eagles starting lineup for the 2026 Unity Cup final against Jamaica has been confirmed, and coach Eric Chelle has gone with a very strong lineup, Soccernet.ng reports.

Chelle has made just one change from the team that defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the opening game of the Unity Cup on May 26.

Arthur Okonkwo gets the nod in goal once more, with Francis Uzoho watching on from the bench.

Arthur Okonkwo of Wrexham.
The center-back partnership of Igoh Ogbu and Chibuike Nwaiwu also stands. They they are flanked by Chibueze Oputa and Kenneth Igboke. Last time out, they left without conceding, and they will be looking to maintain that in this Jamaica fixture.

In the middle of the park, Alhassan Yusuf, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Samson Tijani all start for Nigeria. These players are hardworkers on the pitch, and they will be looking to bring that to the game today.

Then in attack, Chelle has decide to bench Philip Otele, with Rafiu Durosinmi taking his place. Terem Moffi will be captaining the team for just the second time, and he will play just behind Durosinmi in attack, while also drifting across other positions in the final third.

Super Eagles player celebrate. (Photo by: Imag)

Finally, Femi Azeez is the third man in the attack. He had a dream debut, scoring the brace that sealed the victory for the Super Eagles last time out. The 24-year-old is coming off a good campaign with Millwall in the English Championship, registering 11 goals and seven assists in 37 games. His performances have seen him linked with Premier League clubs like Aston Villa, Ipswich Town, and Brighton. He will be looking to provide another thrilling performance for Nigeria.

This is a rematch of last year's final at the Brentford Community Stadium, where Nigeria twice led before Jamaica equalised on both occasions, forcing a penalty shootout that the Super Eagles edged 5–4. The Reggae Boyz arrive tonight with revenge firmly on their minds, and Kaheim Dixon—the Charlton Athletic forward who scored in last year's final—plays at his home ground.

Super Eagles fans.
Eric Chelle has used this tournament to rebuild and experiment. Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi were all rested, opening the door for fringe players and domestic-based talents to stake their claims. The biggest beneficiary has been Femi Azeez, the Millwall winger who scored twice on debut in Nigeria's 2–0 semi-final victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday and now enters the final as the tournament's standout performer.

Jamaica reached tonight's final with a convincing 2–0 win over India, with Dixon and Courtney Clarke providing the goals. Interim coach Rudolph Speid has assembled an energetic, youthful squad with pace in wide areas and a physical edge in midfield that will test Nigeria's rhythm throughout.

Francis Uzoho is expected to replace Arthur Okonkwo in goal, while Azeez almost certainly keeps his place in attack after his semi-final brace. Rafiu Durosinmi is tipped to lead the line, with Philip Otele on the opposite flank.

Victor Osimhen may be celebrating another successful season in Istanbul, but developments at Liverpool have once again placed the Super Eagles striker at the centre of a major football debate, Soccernet.ng reports.

Liverpool have officially parted ways with manager Arne Slot after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign. The Dutch coach had arrived at Anfield with enormous expectations after succeeding Jürgen Klopp and immediately delivered success by leading the Reds to the Premier League title in his first season.

However, football can be brutally unforgiving. Just one year after lifting the trophy, Slot found himself out of a job following a dramatic collapse in Liverpool's fortunes.

The Merseyside club finished fifth in the Premier League, ending the season 25 points behind champions Arsenal. Across all competitions, Liverpool suffered 19 defeats and failed to mount a serious challenge for major honours despite significant investment in the squad.

Liverpool's hierarchy, led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, concluded that the team's direction was no longer convincing enough. Supporters became increasingly frustrated by a style of play many felt lacked the intensity and aggression that had defined Klopp's most successful sides.

Victor Osimhen. Copyright: xSeskimphotoxIMAGO

The breakdown of Slot's relationship with several key figures also added to the pressure. Club legend Mohamed Salah publicly called for a return to Liverpool's traditional high-energy approach, while poor performances on the pitch continued to fuel criticism from fans.

Yet among all the reasons that will likely be discussed following Slot's departure, one transfer call will particularly attract attention. And that is Liverpool's decision not to sign Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen: The summer transfer choice that changed everything

Ahead of the just-concluded season, Liverpool entered the transfer market searching for a striker capable of leading their title defence. Two names reportedly stood out above the rest. That of Victor Osimhen and Alexander Isak.

Osimhen was available after his difficult relationship with Napoli. His release clause had dropped to around €75 million, making him one of the most attractive options in European football. The Nigerian had already established himself as one of the continent's most feared forwards thanks to his pace, movement, aerial ability and relentless pressing.

At the time, he had powered Galatasaray to a rare league and cup double, scoring an astonishing 36 goals while on loan in Istanbul. Coupled with his excellent spell at Napoli where he led the club to a historic Scudetto title, Osimhen looked like the ideal man for Anfield.

Instead, Liverpool chose a different path. Slot preferred Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, believing the Sweden international's technical qualities and Premier League experience made him the ideal fit for his tactical system. Liverpool backed their manager fully, spending a British-record £125 million to bring Isak to Anfield.

Victor Osimhen. Copyright: xMatrixxImagesx/xWartxBrinkerhofxIMAGO

Unfortunately for Slot, the move did not work out as planned. Isak endured a season heavily disrupted by fitness problems. Injuries limited his availability and prevented him from building momentum. By the end of the campaign, his goal return fell far below expectations, leaving Liverpool without the reliable goalscorer they desperately needed.

While Liverpool struggled, Osimhen was thriving. After completing a permanent move to Galatasaray, the Nigerian striker produced another outstanding campaign. He scored regularly in both domestic and European competitions and helped drive the Turkish giants to another league title.

As Liverpool's problems mounted, comparisons between the two strikers became unavoidable.

Why Victor Osimhen's success increased pressure on Slot

It would be inaccurate to say that Arne Slot lost his job solely because Liverpool did not sign Victor Osimhen. The Dutchman's dismissal was the result of numerous issues, including poor results, an underperforming squad, tactical concerns and dressing-room tensions.

However, Osimhen's performances magnified questions surrounding one of Slot's most important decisions. Many argued that Osimhen possessed exactly the qualities Liverpool lacked throughout the season.

The Nigerian is known for his aggressive pressing, direct running and ability to stretch opposition defences. Those attributes could have complemented players such as Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz while helping Liverpool rediscover the fast, attacking football that supporters wanted to see.

Victor Osimhen. Copyright: IMAGOxMatrixxImagesx/xWartxBrinkerhofx

His aerial strength would also have provided an additional attacking weapon, especially during difficult matches against defensive opponents.

There was also the financial aspect. Osimhen's release clause was significantly lower than the fee Liverpool paid for Isak. In theory, the money saved could have been used to strengthen other areas of the squad.

As Liverpool's campaign deteriorated, the contrast between Osimhen's success in Turkey and Liverpool's struggles in England became an increasingly uncomfortable talking point.

In the end, Slot's fate was decided by far more than one transfer decision. Yet football is often defined by fine margins and crucial choices. The decision to overlook Victor Osimhen in favour of Alexander Isak became a symbol of a season in which too many important calls failed to deliver the desired outcome.

Now, with Slot gone and Liverpool searching for a new manager, questions about what might have happened had Osimhen arrived at Anfield instead are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.

Given Arsenal haven't won a Champions League title, and lost in their previous final appearance 20 years ago, Finidi believes there might be a mental battle the Gunners have to fight.

“Arsenal has been in the final before—against Barcelona in the mid-2000s—but for this current young squad, it’s entirely new territory.

“On the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain just won it last season, so that experience is fresh in their memory. They are returning with the same core group of players who already know what it takes to win.

“If Arsenal doesn’t have a player in their squad who has won a Champions League final, they will need to play very smartly to avoid conceding early. If they give up an early goal, their mental toughness will truly be tested.

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze laid his mother, Mrs. Serah Chinyere Chukwueze, to rest on Friday, May 29, in Abia State Soccernet.ng reports.

The year began with personal tragedy for the Fulham star, who lost his mother on January 29 following a brief illness. At the time, he was on duty with his club, Fulham, which prevented him from returning to Nigeria immediately for the funeral.

In the South East of Nigeria, funeral rites—particularly for a matriarch or the mother of a prominent figure—are deeply significant, elaborate, and need extensive planning. As a result, Chukwueze waited until the end of the football season to return to his home state of Abia for a proper burial ceremony in Umuahia.

Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen in Super Eagles 2025 AFCON attire (Photo credit: NFF/X)

The event was well-attended, drawing government dignitaries, social media personalities, and prominent entrepreneurs in the South East. Notably, Chukwueze received strong support from his Super Eagles teammates and officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Fellow Super Eagles stars Chidozie Awaziem and Kelechi Iheanacho were spotted standing by their grieving teammate during the ceremony, and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau was also in attendance to pay his respects.

Samuel Chukwueze's Future in the Balance

Once he is done with his mother's burial, Chukwueze will have to start thinking about his future. He spent last year on loan at Fulham from AC Milan.
However, the 27-year-old has iterated that he would love to stay in London after a decent debut year that saw him register three goals and four assists in 23 Premier League games. But Fulham have been pussyfooting on the transfer, which means that there is a good chance that they might not sign him permanently.

It also appears that AC Milan, who are in a transition period are unwilling to keep the Super Eagles star. So it is left to be seen how his situation unfolds in the summer.

Mikel Arteta has gone on to lift the English Premier League with Arsenal as a coach, while Mauricio Pochettino has coached several top clubs in Europe, but the duo, alongside the legendary Ian Wright, opine that Okocha is the most skilful player they've seen play.

The numbers confirm the well-rounded public opinion of the 1994 AFCON winner after FIFA recently confirmed that Okocha remains the player with the most successful dribbles completed in a single World Cup match.

Okocha tops Messi & Maradona on FIFA World Cup dribbling record

The Nigerian playmaker completed an astonishing 15 successful take-ons during the Round of 16 clash against Italy at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, a figure no player has surpassed in the 32 years since.

What makes the achievement extraordinary is the calibre of opponents Okocha faced that day. The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder danced past some of Italy's finest defenders, including Alessandro Costacurta and Demetrio Albertini, and Paolo Maldini, who was a part of the record-breaking AC Milan team that won the Serie A in the same year, conceding just 15 goals.

Despite Okocha producing one of the greatest individual performances ever seen at football's biggest tournament against the Azzuri, the Super Eagles lost the game after Roberto Baggio cancelled Emmanuel Amunike's opener in the 88th minute.

The former Juventus forward scored the winner in extra time, stopping Nigeria from reaching the quarter-final in their debut Mundial appearance.

Jay Jay- Okocha goes past Roberto Mussi of Italy in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Copyright: Imago

Where do Messi and Maradona rank?

While Okocha owns the single-match record, Messi and Maradona dominate other World Cup dribbling categories.

Messi currently holds the record for the most successful dribbles across an entire World Cup career, having completed 125 take-ons during his appearances between 2006 and 2022.

The Argentine captain's longevity, consistency and ability to beat defenders across five tournaments allowed him to move clear of every player in FIFA World Cup history.

Maradona, meanwhile, remains the king of dribbling over a single World Cup edition.

During Argentina's victorious 1986 campaign in Mexico, the Napoli legend completed 53 successful dribbles, the highest total ever recorded in one tournament.

His famous performances against England and Belgium remain among the most iconic displays ever produced in a FIFA World Cup tournament.

The elite list behind Okocha

According to FIFA's records, Okocha's 15 dribbles place him alone at the top of the list.

Brazil's Jairzinho and England midfielder Paul Gascoigne jointly occupy second place with 13 successful dribbles in a match.

A group of football greats follow closely behind with 12 successful take-ons, including Eusebio, Johan Cruyff, Sandro Mazzola, Reinhard Libuda, Diego Maradona and Germany's Jamal Musiala.

Musiala's 12 successful dribbles for Germany against Costa Rica at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup set a Mundial record for the most dribbles by a teenager in a single match since 1966.

While Messi may own the career record, and Maradona may own the tournament record, when it comes to the most successful dribbles in a single FIFA World Cup match, the crown still belongs to Okocha, and for now, the Nigerian magician remains untouchable.
