Report: Super Eagles prospect once eyed by Chelle shuts down Atlético Madrid links

Christantus Uche’s camp has played down reports linking him with a move to join La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Getafe FC player once caught the eye of former Mali head coach Eric Chelle during his Super Eagles scouting mission, adding him to his 39-man provisional squad list.

Last week, several media outlets suggested that Uche was close to leaving Getafe, with claims that Atlético Madrid had initiated talks over a potential summer transfer.

The 21-year-old has impressed in Spain’s top flight this season with three goals and three assists in 27 La Liga matches, reportedly attracting interest from multiple clubs like Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.

However, per Africa Foot, sources close to Uche’s camp have rubbished the reports. A representative close to his agency, Pintex Sports, who manages the player, clarified that there has been no communication with Atlético Madrid.

“Rumors will always appear when a player is as talented as Chris [Uche], but we are aware of all the implications. It’s an honor that he is linked to Atlético Madrid and other big clubs, but we are not in talks with anyone.” the source stated.

Uche has a contract with Getafe until 2028, with an option for a one-year extension. Despite being open to a future move, his representatives reiterated that he remains committed to Getafe for the foreseeable future.

The source added: “We don’t know what the future holds; the goal is to finish the season on a high note, and we’ll see. He has a long-term contract with Getafe and he’s thriving there.”

Uche was previously on the radar for a potential Super Eagles call-up under the guidance of Eric Chelle, but he has yet to make his debut for Nigeria’s senior national team.
