Photo: Southampton fans hype Onuachu with bold message after Wolves defeat

Southampton FC fans have thrown their support behind Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu despite their club’s continued struggles in the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Saints fans were spotted unveiling a bold message for the towering forward during their latest defeat to Wolves.

In a 2-1 loss at St. Mary’s, Onuachu was one of the few bright spots for the Saints, where he scored in the 75th minute to give his side hope.

His efforts did not go unnoticed, as a banner in the stands reading “In Tall Paul We Trust” showed the fans’ growing admiration for the Super Eagles attacker.

The match started on a rough note for Southampton, with Jorgen Strand Larsen heading Wolves into the lead in the 19th minute.

Things went from bad to worse just after halftime when Larsen doubled his tally with a precise finish in the 47th minute.

Onuachu, who was introduced at the start of the second half by manager Ivan Juric, nearly made an immediate impact in the 60th minute with a powerful header from a corner, only to be denied by Wolves’ goalkeeper Jose Sa.

However, his persistence paid off in the 75th minute when he capitalised on a rebound to slot home his third goal of the season.

The goal was a long time coming for Onuachu, who struggled in his first season at Southampton after joining in the 2023-24 January transfer window.

Following an underwhelming spell, he was loaned to Trabzonspor, where he rediscovered his scoring touch with 17 goals in 25 appearances.

Returning to the Saints for the 2024-25 season campaign, he opened his account in a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest and has now netted three times in 19 appearances.

Despite Onuachu’s improving form, Southampton remain in deep trouble, sitting in the relegation zone with just nine points from 29 matches.

With survival looking increasingly unlikely, the club faces an uphill battle to avoid a return to the EFL Championship.
