“A fighter” – Ex-Barca midfielder likens Osimhen to Diego Costa, urges Chelsea to make move

Former Barcelona and Arsenal defensive midfielder, Emmanuel Laurent Petit, has urged Chelsea to go all out for Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker, Victor James Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old striker is one of the most sought-after attacking prospects in European football, and Chelsea alongside a host of other European clubs are interested in the services of the Napoli loanee.

Petit, who played for Chelsea between 2001 and 2004, admitted Osimhen’s fighting spirit will boost the mood at Stamford Bridge but is sceptical about how the striker’s personality will rub off on the rest of his teammates.

What Petit said about Osimhen

“My concerns with Victor Osimhen would be with his personality and character, it can be a great thing for the team if it fits in, but it can also be difficult in other teams.

“We all know his qualities and what he can bring to the team, he can score goals and bring character, he reminds me of Diego Costa in that sense, he is a fighter. In terms of personality and character, it can be a lot, but he is very versatile, but there might just be better options on the market this summer,” the 54-year-old said in quotes revealed by GOAL.

Osimhen is set to leave Napoli this summer, with his release clause believed to be around £63m, while his wage demands would be in the region of £200,000-a-week.

The Galatasaray forward has been in fine form since moving to the Turkish Super Lig in September. He’s scored 26 goals and provided five assists in 30 games across all competitions for Okan Buruk‘s side.

Should Chelsea go for other options?

With Petit advocating for other strikers, that streamlines Chelsea’s options to Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak. However, these options will cost the London side more than they’ll pay to get Osimhen from Napoli.

Additonally, there is stiff competition from other clubs for Osimhen, and should the striker sense there is a doubt in how much he’s wanted, it might do damage to Chelsea’s chances of sealing a deal for him, or other strikers.

One thing is clear, Enzo Maresca’s side are in dire need of an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson, and not many of those are in the market.

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has urged Osimhen to make a move to the Premier League, specifically to Chelsea.
