Nottingham Forest chief set to break bank for Super Eagles goalscoring star

Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is considering breaking the bank to make a record £63m bid for Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Reds are currently third on the English Premier League table this season, and are gunning for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Chris Wood, Forest’s top striker, has scored 18 goals in the English top-flight this season, but at 33 years of age, the Wiki striker can’t be banked on to play 50+ games per season.

As per Nottinghampost, Forest are said to be eyeing up a move for Victor Osimhen as part of owner Evangelos Marinakis ambitious summer plans.

The Napoli loanee has scored 30 goals and provided five assists in all competitions for club and country this season. However, uncertainty surrounds his future, and the two-time UEFA Champions League winners are now keeping tabs on the Galatasaray striker.

Osimhen is said to have a €75 million (£63m) release clause, which can be triggered by clubs outside of the Italian Serie A. Surprisingly, it is widely believed that Forest can cater to the potential wage demand of the former LOSC Lille striker, who will earn nothing less than €220,000-per week.

Sky Sports previously reported that Napoli owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear Osimhen  will be sold to the highest bidder when the transfer window opens this summer.

Should Forest decide to hand in an official bid, they’ll be competing alongside Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain who are also in pursuit of the 2023 Scudetto winner.

Bolstering head coach Nuno’s options up front will be a priority for Forest this summer. With Wood moving closer to the end of his career, and Taiwo Awoniyi’s recurring problems, it is imperative Forest bring in a striker as they’ll be competing on at least four fronts next season.

The Reds were linked with Santiago Gimenez but the Mexican striker joined AC Milan. Additionally, they’ve already been linked with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Matheus Cunha, Tammy Abraham, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto.

Forest’s keenness on another striker hints they’re preparing to part ways with Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, this summer.
