Who is Nigeria-eligible Nathan Butler-Oyedeji? Arsenal’s only fit striker for Chelsea clash

Nigeria-eligible forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has emerged as a potential solution for Mikel Arteta’s selection dilemma as Arsenal prepare to face Chelsea in a fierce London derby, Soccernet.ng reports.

With the unavailability of Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and even Bukayo Saka, Arsenal are left with limited options in attack as they aim for all three points.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old striker, who is relatively unknown to many fans, is now Arsenal’s only fit centre-forward for the crucial fixture.

Who is Nathan Butler-Oyedeji?

Born in England but eligible to represent Nigeria through his parents, Butler-Oyedeji has been part of Arsenal’s setup since the age of eight.

The young striker, who has risen through the ranks, has impressed in the club’s youth teams with his goal-scoring ability.

Primarily deployed as a forward, he is also capable of playing as a winger. His work rate has caught the attention of Arsenal’s coaching staff, which has earned him opportunities to train with the senior squad and also play a minute in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in London.

So far this season, Butler-Oyedeji has registered 10 goals and six assists in 15 appearances, which shows his eye for goal.

While he is yet to make his Premier League debut, he has been included in the matchday squad on a few occasions.

What Can Butler-Oyedeji Offer Arsenal vs Chelsea?

With Arsenal lacking attacking options, Butler-Oyedeji could be handed a golden opportunity to make an impact.

With a keen eye for goal and the ability to press defenders aggressively—qualities that align with Arteta’s style of play—he could play a crucial role in their clash against Chelsea.

However, it remains to be seen if Arteta will have full confidence in the player to start the game.

Although he lacks top-flight experience, his confidence and ability to play in multiple attacking roles could make him a useful asset.

Will Butler-Oyedeji Get a Chance?

Arsenal’s injury crisis has opened the door for Butler-Oyedeji to step up when the likes of Havertz and Jesus are not available due to injury.

Just like many other young talents who proved their ability in their first top-flight appearance for Arsenal, it is expected of him to make a positive impression if given a chance.

Is Butler-Oyedeji Eligible to Play for the Flying Eagles?

Having turned 22, Butler-Oyedeji cannot play for the Nigeria U-20 team. However, should he pledge allegiance to play for the Nigerian national team, the Arsenal youngster is eligible to play for the Nigeria U-23 team, as well as the senior national team, the Super Eagles.
