“Well done boys” – What ex-Chelsea defender said after Super Eagles’ draw with Zimbabwe

Former Chelsea defender and Super Eagles centre-back Kenneth Omeruo has reacted to Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 2013 AFCON champions only secured a point at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, which further dented their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Omeruo, who was not part of the matchday squad, took to social media to show support for his teammates despite the disappointing result that left Nigeria with just seven points from five games in Group C.

“Well done boys… we are almost there.. unlucky with the late goal.. #Believe,” Omeruo wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the final whistle.

Napoli-owned forward, Victor Osimhen, gave Eric Chelle’s troops the lead in the 74th minute with a brilliant header from Ola Aina’s cross, but Zimbabwe stunned the home crowd with a late equaliser from Tawanda Chirewa in the 90th minute.

The draw has thrown the Nigerian football community into disappointment. However, English Premier League players Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi, as earlier reported by Soccernet.ng, have assured the football fans of making it to the World Cup at all cost.

Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C, trailing leaders South Africa by six points, with four crucial matches — against Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic — remaining in the qualification campaign.
