Like Ilenikhena to Monaco, Antwerp set to nurture another Nigerian talent

18-year-old Nigerian midfielder Orseer Achichi has been linked with a move similar to that of George Ilenikhena, who is making waves at AS Monaco after his transfer from Royale Antwerp, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to reports, the Nigerian starlet has signed a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee, adding his name to the list of Nigerian players who have donned the club’s colours.

Achichi was reportedly spotted during a local football match in Makurdi by Nigerian scout Akya Silvanus Agba, who connected him with Nigerian-Norwegian agent Atta Aneke, eventually securing a move to Antwerp.

Having signed a long-term deal, the young midfielder is expected to start with the club’s reserve team, where he will aim to impress and earn a place in the senior squad.

A similar path was taken by Ilenikhena, who joined the Belgian side from Amiens SC U19 in 2023. He made a strong impression, scoring 14 goals in 50 matches before attracting interest from Monaco and returning to France.

Currently, the Nigerian-born Ilenikhena is making waves for Monaco, scoring two UEFA Champions League goals and a total of six goals in 26 appearances for the club.

If all goes well for Achichi, he could follow in Ilenikhena’s footsteps, joining the ranks of other Nigerians like Chidera Ejuke, Alhassan Yusuf, Peter Utaka, and many more who have represented Royale Antwerp.
