“We need to talk” – Cyriel Dessers breaks silence amidst transfer exit links from Rangers

Super Eagles and Rangers striker, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, has cleared the air about his future at Ibrox amidst transfer stories linking him away from the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old has been The Gers’ highest goal scorer over the past two seasons, but his profligacy in front of goal has cost him his place in Philippe Clement’s starting eleven.

Dessers is now third in Rangers’ pecking order, behind Danilo and Morrocan U-23 striker, Hamza Igamane. Since the turn of December, the former Cremonese striker has started just one game.

After seeing his playing time reduced at Hampden Park, Dessers was linked with a move to two Serie A clubs and French Ligue 1 side, AS Saint-Etienne.

Dessers, speaking about his future, revealed his team comes first despite the reduction in his playing time. While he admitted an exit might be on the cards, the former Feyenoord striker admitted a January exit might be difficult.

“Last month I lost my starting spot. The boy [Igamane] who is playing now is also a good striker, he also scores. I try to support him and help him because I want the team to win, but it is difficult.

“I don’t know what my situation is now. I can imagine that Rangers might want to earn something from me this month, but January is a difficult window. Clubs that are doing well probably also have a striker who is performing well, and few clubs that need goals will immediately have the millions ready.

“We’ll just have to wait and see. I’m at a great club, but I’m 30-years-old and want to play every week, preferably at Rangers. If there are different feelings about that internally, then we need to talk,” the Belgium-born Nigerian said in quotes revealed by The Scottish Sun.

Despite Rangers’ efficiency in front of goal without Dessers, they’ve been unable to mount a title challenge. The Gers are currently 13 points behind their rivals, Celtic, on the SPFL table.
