Nottingham Forest: Espirito Santo breaks Guardiola’s heart with update on Aina’s contract

Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, is confident his side will keep Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, at the City Ground beyond this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Aina joined the Reds on a free deal from Torino in the summer of 2023, penning a year-long deal with the option to extend for another and has become a cult hero at the City Ground ever since.

Last summer, the extension clause was activated, meaning the Nigerian would stay with the two-time FA Cup winners for another year.

This season, Aina has improved in leaps and bounds and has been labelled by many as the best right-back in the English Premier League, drawing interest from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

With six months left on his current deal, the former Torino defender is free to enter into pre-contract talks with other teams, but Nuno Espirito Santo is confident the Nigerian will remain a Nottingham Forest player beyond this season.

“On Ola’s contract, No, I don’t think there’s an issue on that. They [Ola Aina, Murillo and Chris Wood] are working very well. Things are going well. The people responsible for that part of the club are taking care of it. It helps when a player is happy, as a club there is no issue in terms of changing. What we want is our players to feel good. We provide the right atmosphere and then they have to do their jobs on the pitch,” the former Tottenham Hotspur coach said in quotes revealed by Nottingham Post.

The Super Eagles defender appears to be enjoying life at Forest as well and has his gaze fixed on a place in the latter stages of the FA Cup, as they take on Luton Town in the third round of the competition this evening.

Ola Aina has played every game for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the English Premier League this season, and has found the back of the net twice.
