Ligue 1: Monaco eyeing move for 58-cap Super Eagles star

French Ligue 1 giants Monaco are weighing up a transfer for Super Eagles striker for Wilfred Ndidi during the ongoing January transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndidi has been a consistent standout performer for Leicester City since he joined the club from KRC Genk in 2017. The Nigerian defensive midfielder has registered 18 goals and 21 assists in 289 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions.

Ndidi used to be one of the top midfielders in the Premier League four seasons ago and was even on the radar of Manchester United at some point. However, injuries and loss of form dealt him a big blow.

The 28-year-old Super Eagles star has been integral to everything the Foxes have achieved in recent years. This season, he started well, featuring in 15 Premier League games before suffering an injury in early December 2024. Since then, he has missed eight games for Leicester City.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian midfielder seems to be attracting attention from abroad. This is as Fabrizio Romano reports that Monaco are weighing up a transfer for the Super Eagles star this month. They want to get Ndidi on loan and add a buyout clause to the deal, but Leicester City value their man and are unwilling to let him leave.

The Foxes can afford to hold out right now, as Ndidi still has over two years left on his current deal. However, Ndidi may be hungry for a new experience and decide to ditch the East Midlanders.

On Transfermarkt, Ndidi is valued at €18.00 million, but Leicester City would likely demand more than that. If Monaco can match their demands and Ndidi is willing to leave, the Foxes may be tempted to sell.
