Nigerian striker Josh Maja, who is a transfer target for Chelsea and Tottenham, has suffered a lower leg injury and will be sidelined for several weeks, Soccernet.ng reports.
Maja has had an impressive campaign with English Championship club West Brom this season. The 26-year-old striker has registered 12 goals and two assists in 26 Championship appearances for West Brom this season, helping them to 6th place.
Maja is only second to Norwich City’s Borja Sainz on the Championship goalscorers’ chart.
His performances have attracted interest from bigger clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham, who have been rumoured to be monitoring his performances. However, nothing concrete has emerged from those talks.
Now, in a new development, the former Fulham man has experienced a significant setback. This is as West Brom have announced that Maja will be out of action for several weeks following an injury on his lower leg. The Nigerian is set to undergo a surgery, and that will keep him out for some time.
This is a big blow for West Brom, as Maja has produced more than a third of their goals in the Championship this season. The second-highest goalscorer is Karlan Grant, who has six goals and two assists in 25 games.
Meanwhile, Maja would be gutted, as aside from his goal contributions, he has also been good to watch. If he could stay fit until the end of the season, he probably would have gotten a big move. But with this setback, unless the Nigerian striker starts banging in goals when he returns, it would be tough for him to get a big move.
