First Liverpool, now Southampton: Ola Aina saves Forest with goal-line clearance – Photo

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina delivered another heroic performance for Nottingham Forest during their matchday 22 clash against English Premier League last-bottom side, Southampton, Soccernet.ng reports.

During the clash at the City Ground, Jan Bednarek’s powerful header seemed destined for the net, but Aina’s quick reflexes on the goal line ensured Forest stayed in the game.

This incredible act makes it the Nigerian’s second crucial goal-line clearance of the week, with his first coming against Liverpool earlier on Tuesday.

Aina’s defensive awareness has proven invaluable for Nuno Espirito Santo’s boys, as he continues to make key interventions in high-stakes matches.

His clearance against Liverpool denied Mohamed Salah a late winner, securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Beyond his defensive contributions, Aina has become a significant attacking force for Forest as well. In the clash against Southampton, he provided a vital assist for Chris Wood’s goal. Aina delivered a pinpoint cross that evaded the goalkeeper, leaving Wood with a simple header into the bottom corner.

This season, Aina’s attacking metrics reflect his evolution into a more dynamic player. His expected goals (0.58) and expected assists (1.14) have improved significantly compared to last season, and he has already created two big chances this term.

Additionally, Aina’s involvement in Forest’s build-up play has increased, with notable improvements in his long ball accuracy (1.1 per 90) and crossing efficiency (0.4 per 90). These contributions underline his growing importance in both defence and attack for Nottingham Forest.

As Forest battle to stay competitive in the Premier League, Ola Aina’s consistency and ability to deliver in critical moments are proving to be indispensable for Arne Slot’s side.
