Super Eagles stars Josh Maja and Semi Ajayi have gotten a new coach at West Brom, as the club has confirmed the appointment of Tony Mowbray, Soccernet.ng reports.
West Brom have had a topsy-turvy start to the Championship campaign, with nine wins, 13 draws, and four losses from their first 26 games. They started the campaign with Carlos Corberan in charge, but Valencia snapped him up after 22 games after they sacked Ruben Baraja.
The club then appointed Chris Brunt as interim coach, and he has been in charge of their last five games across all competitions, picking up one win, two losses and two draws.
However, West Brom have appointed a new permanent coach. On Friday night, the club announced the appointment of former Ipswich Town coach Mowbray, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal. It is his second stint after coaching the club between 2006 and 2009.
Mowbray has spent most of his career coaching English clubs, including stints at Birmingham City, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City, and Middlesbrough.
Maja flourished under Corberan, registering ten goals and two assists in 22 games. But he is now injured and will be out of action till March at least. The Super Eagles star will be looking to return to his best form and continue scoring goals.
Meanwhile, Ajayi has been healing from a hamstring injury he suffered last November. He is expected to return to action in February. Under Mowbray, he will look to form an important part of West Brom’s defence. West Brom currently sits seventh in the Championship, with 40 points from 26 games.
