Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has been named Boavista’s Player of the Month for December, earning the prestigious Estrella Galicia award through a fan vote on the club’s official platforms, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Portuguese side announced Onyemaechi’s triumph on their official website on Thursday, celebrating his consistent performances in what has been a challenging campaign for the team.
Receiving the award, the 24-year-old expressed his appreciation for the recognition but reiterated his focus on collective success.
“I want to thank the fans who voted for me and also Estrella Galicia. But it’s not just about this award—it’s about the team’s commitment and effort, even when the results don’t go our way,” Onyemaechi remarked.
The versatile left-back, who has been instrumental for Boavista this season, emphasised the significance of their upcoming clash against FC Arouca.
“Every game is a final for us, and every point matters,” Onyemaechi added. “We are determined to get back to winning ways and give our fans their first home win. They’ve always supported us, rain or shine, and that means a lot to the team.”
Onyemaechi’s adaptability on the pitch has been one of Boavista’s key assets.
Capable of playing across multiple positions, the Nigerian international said he is ready to step up wherever needed.
“I feel comfortable playing in different positions—defence, midfield, or even attack. The most important thing is to be available to help the team achieve its goals.”
Boavista, currently 17th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with 12 points, face a crucial game against last-placed Arouca, also on 12 points.
Onyemaechi expressed optimism about turning the tide, outlining his main objective for 2025.
“Our biggest goal is to climb up the league table. Personal goals? We all have them, but what matters most is the team’s success,” he noted.
Onyemaechi joined Boavista from Feirense in 2022, initially on loan, before the club secured his services permanently in June 2023.
On the international stage, Onyemaechi debuted for Nigeria in a resounding 6–0 win over São Tomé and Príncipe during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He was a key figure in the Super Eagles squad that reached the final of the tournament, narrowly losing 2–1 to Ivory Coast.
