Better than before! How we can help Osimhen score more goals – Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk

Galatasaray head coach, Okan Buruk, has revealed his plans to help Super Eagles striker, Victor James Osimhen, to score more goals, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old has scored 11 league goals for the CimBom Aslan this season and is currently joint third on the Turkish Super Lig goalscoring charts.

Despite his brilliant goalscoring record from 18 games for Galatasaray, Osimhen could have scored much more if he timed his run properly. This season, the Napoli loanee has been caught offside 20 times in the league and has had six goals ruled out because he put the ball into the back of the net from offside positions.

Galatasaray’s head coach, Okan Buruk, admitted his concerns about the runs of the former LOSC Lille striker and revealed he alongside his staff will help Osimhen make better runs.

“He is a top-tier forward, for the world, Europe, and our league. Strikers sometimes move actively to gain ground in certain situations. I think the important thing is being in the right position. We conduct video analysis for all matches. For years, we’ve used Burak Yılmaz as an example—one of the best forwards in Turkish football.

“Burak also used to move between defenders, sometimes getting caught offside, but if he wasn’t, he scored. Osimhen is the same. He moves among defenders, sometimes misleading them. He’s a top-level striker. Instead of focusing on how not to get caught offside, we show how he can improve through video analysis,” the 51-year-old said in quotes revealed by Haber Sarikir Mizi.

Additionally, the Turkish manager drew attention away from Osimhen’s timed runs, instead, he urged his team to keep creating chances for the lethal finisher.

“The most important thing is that we are one of the teams that create the most chances both in Turkey and in Europe. In Turkey, we are the best in finishing. When you look at the chances we create and the goals we score, we are at the top. Some games don’t go well, and in some games, everything works.

“The key is to create chances. Players who create and sustain this style of play provide the attacking game that our fans want. We’ll work to fix that. Individual performances are also important during matches, and mistakes can happen. Our goal is to have a Galatasaray that concedes fewer goals.”

Quizzed about the possibility of his side straying into the transfer window before the end of January, the former Inter Milan midfielder said;

“We are working very hard on transfers. Let me emphasize this. Whenever there’s a draw, the issue of transfers becomes more prominent. But we already have very good players. Nonetheless, we are working intensively to strengthen the team. Our president and management will do whatever is necessary in this regard.”

Victor Osimhen has scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 18 games for Galatasaray this season. He’s three goals short of equalling the total number of club goals he scored in all competitions last term.
