Atalanta CEO gives update on Lookman’s potential January exit

Atalanta CEO, Luca Percassi, has cleared the air on his side’s transfer dealings during the 2025 winter window, amid Ademola Lookman’s exit links, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Italian football administrator revealed they’ll be doing their best to keep their current squad till the end of the season, as the winter transfer window just opened up two days ago.

Lookman was Atalanta’s breakout star in 2024, playing an integral role in the club’s success while showing up for Nigeria across several tournaments. The former Everton man was placed 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, before crowning a brilliant year off by winning the CAF POTY Award in Morocco.

His brilliance saw him linked with several teams, but the 2024 UEFA Europa League winners made it clear to the interested parties that they wouldn’t be parting ways with the Nigerian, or any of their players in the January transfer window.

Speaking ahead of La Dea‘s Super Coppa Italiana clash against Inter Milan, the club’s CEO confirmed he’s pleased with the team at his disposal, but didn’t rule out his side’s involvement in making a deal happen this month.

“The transfer market is obviously a period when there’s a lot of talk. In the summer, we faced unprecedented issues, but with the confirmation that the club has made significant investments. We have a complete squad, and if there were opportunities that convince us, we would always be attentive.

The team has achieved more than positive results so far, and there are balances to respect. If there should be opportunities, we will seize them, but with great tranquillity, because we know that the January market is very difficult,” Percassi said in quotes revealed by Foot Italia.

Additionally, the 44-year-old was thrilled with the achievements his team have racked up under Gian Piero Gasperini and revealed the best is yet to come.

“We’re experiencing many finals, which are evenings that reward all the work we do. This means there’s a lot of work behind it. What we’ve done so far is extraordinary and very beautiful. However, we’re only halfway through a journey, and we must continue to work to make the most of the remaining difficult matches and have no regrets.”

Inter take on Atalanta at the Al-Awwal Park, Ar-Riyad in Saudi Arabia tonight, with kick-off time slated for 8:00 PM WAT. The winner of tonight’s will play the final in four days’ time against whoever comes out victorious between Juventus and AC Milan.
