Samuel Chukwueze: Nigeria winger misses AC Milan’s flight to Saudi Arabia for Juventus battle

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze will not feature in AC Milan’s high-stakes Italian Super Cup semi-final against Juventus in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after sustaining an injury in the weekend clash with AS Roma, Soccernet.ng reports.

Chukwueze’s absence is a significant setback for the Rossoneri, who recently appointed Sergio Conceição as head coach following Paulo Fonseca’s dismissal.

Conceição’s first test at the helm comes against Juventus on January 3 at the Al Awal Park at King Saud University.

The Nigerian international suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Roma on Sunday.

Despite showing flashes of creativity in his 62 minutes on the pitch, Chukwueze’s night ended in frustration as he limped off the field.

Initial assessments suggest the injury could keep him sidelined for weeks, potentially impacting Milan’s plans for the winger.

Chukwueze’s struggles since joining AC Milan in July 2023 have been well-documented.

The former Villarreal star, who tallied 37 goals and 31 assists in 207 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, has yet to find his footing in Serie A.

In 21 appearances across all competitions this season, he has managed just three goals and one assist, largely as a substitute.

Reports have linked the Nigerian to a potential swap deal involving Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, but this latest injury casts doubt on Milan’s ability to move him during the January transfer window.

With speculation over a loan or permanent transfer looming, Chukwueze’s long-term future at the San Siro appears increasingly uncertain.

AC Milan, now en route to Riyadh for the Super Cup clash, will rely on Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic, both of whom are travelling but remain under evaluation for fitness.
