Victor Osimhen has responded well to treatment and is set for a surprise return vs Trabzonspor on Monday, despite the initial worries, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Galatasaray forward picked up a knock 16 minutes before regulation time during their 3-2 victory over Sivasspor in the Super Lig last weekend, raising concerns about how long he would be unavailable for the reigning league champions.
Osimhen’s injury setback saw him miss Galatasaray’s UEFA Europa League clash with Malmo on Thursday at Eleda Stadion, with Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi leading the line for Okan Buruk’s side.
However, according to reports from Habersarikirmizi, Galatasaray insider Burhan Can Terzi hinted at Osimhen’s availability for Monday’s home clash with Trabzonspor.
Asked about the club’s injured players, Terzi said:
“Osimhen can play if he [coach Buruk] forces him. It may not be risked. He can play. The player and the technical staff will decide.”
Not only that, two other players who have served time on the sidelines are also rumoured to be ready for the game, which will be a welcome boost for Galatasaray.
“Ismail Jakobs and Kaan Ayhan can also play. I expect these two names to get playing time in Trabzonspor,” Terzi added.
The long-term injury to first-choice striker Mauro Icardi has paved the way for Osimhen to lead the line for the Istanbul giants. The former Lille man has risen to the occasion, earning the love and respect of his coach, teammates, and the Galatasaray fans.
He has scored ten goals and provided four assists in 13 appearances across two competitions for the Yellow-Reds at the time of writing.
But while Batshuayi can occasionally deliver goals for the team, Buruk prefers Osimhen to lead the charge, as the 25-year-old not only scores and provides assists but also creates space for his teammates and helps the team defend when necessary.
Icardi may not be available until the end of the season because of an ACL injury. Therefore, Osimhen’s return would greatly help the club achieve its goals as the season progresses.
