Not Chukwueze: Saka’s hamstring injury to hasten Arsenal’s move for another Super Eagles forward

Emirates FA Cup record Champions, Arsenal, have rekindled their interest in Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman after Bukayo Saka picked up a hamstring injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Gunners have been second-best to Manchester City in the previous two English Premier League campaigns. With Liverpool currently leading the charge this term, Mikel Arteta’s side have encountered more problems as their starman, Saka is set to spend a huge period on the sidelines due to an injury.

Arsenal are six points behind Arne Slot’s side who have a game in hand. The Emirates faithful will play ten games in the next four weeks without their most prolific attacker, which spells danger.

As a result, the 2019 UEFA Europa League finalists are searching for a forward that can slot in for Bukayo Saka. As per Arsenal Core, the Gunners are looking at options to try and sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in the January transfer window.

Atalanta have already declined Liverpool’s enquiry about the Nigerian attacker who won the 2024 CAF Player of the Year Award.

Lookman to Arsenal?

The 27-year-old attacker has had loads of experience in English Football. He came through the ranks at Charlton Atheltic before he moved to Everton. Loan spells to Leicester City and Fulham followed before he moved to Atalanta in 2022.

Since joining Gasperini’s side, the former RB Leipzig attacker has scored 44 goals and provided 23 assists in 98 games for La Dea. He’s also provided clutch moments for Atalanta, with the peak of the bunch coming in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen back in May.

With Arsenal keen on Lookman’s services, a return to England and a title-challenging side could appeal to the Nigerian, but it is highly unlikely he’ll move during the January transfer window, as Atalanta occupies top spot on the Serie A table, and will avoid losing their biggest talent in their Scudetto hunt.

As earlier reported by Soccernet.ng, Arteta’s side are also looking at AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze as a temporary solution to their injury problems with Saka.
