Manchester United’s summer transfer plans are taking a new shape under the new management of Ruben Amorim, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to reports by Germany-based Transfer expert, Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are making significant strides to secure Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP.
This development could impact their pursuit of Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, who were previously linked to the club.
Gyökeres, who flourished under Amorim at Sporting, is now a priority target for the Portuguese manager as he seeks to reshape United’s attack. Talks between the two parties are reportedly progressing, but the deal hinges on Manchester United offloading players to free up funds.
Despite earlier speculation surrounding Osimhen and Boniface, Manchester United have intensified focus on Gyökeres. The club had been linked with a swap deal involving Victor Osimhen and Joshua Zirkzee, while Boniface emerged as a potential target following his spectacular start to the Bundesliga season.
Interestingly, Manchester City have also entered the race for Gyökeres, with Sporting CP sporting director Hugo Viana reportedly spearheading negotiations.
The competition between the two Manchester clubs could drive up the price for the Swedish international, leaving United in a shaky position regarding their other targets.
For now, it appears Manchester United’s interest in Super Eagles stars may take a backseat as the Red Devils prioritise reuniting Amorim with his former striker.
However, the club’s need for sales before making significant moves could leave the door slightly open for alternative transfer pursuits.
