Super Eagles forward Moses Simon scored the solitary goal for Nantes in their 1-0 victory over Rennes at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Soccernet.ng reports.
Simon kept his starting shirt in Nantes’ starting eleven for their game against Rennes on Sunday. Before the game, the Nigerian forward already had a decent start to the campaign with three goals and four assists. And he was the main man for Nantes heading into the fixture.
The first half was quite balanced, as both teams shared the possession equally and had the same number of goal attempts. But none of them was able to break the deadlock. However, the Yellow Canaries got an advantage just before the break, as Mikayil Faye got sent off for a poor tackle.
That changed the trajectory of the game, as Nantes bossed the second half. Simon even had an opportunity to score in the 65th minute after getting the ball in the box. Unfortunately for him, he just dragged his shot wide.
Nantes bossed the game, but Rennes were stubborn and held on. It seemed like the game would drag on and eventually end in a draw, but Simon took the law into his hands and produced a moment of magic that sealed the win. He got the ball at the edge of the box, drifted in, dribbled past two defenders, and struck a wicked curler into the net.
The strike was just enough for Nantes to run out with a 1-0 victory after 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, Akor Adams and his Montpellier side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Lens.
Montpellier were already one goal down when Adams was introduced into the game. But he did not even get any opportunity to make an impact.
