“It is an incentive” – Former Flying Eagles striker reacts to AC Milan transfer links

Nigeria and Montpellier striker, Akor Adams, has revealed he wasn’t flattered when Serie A side, AC Milan, showed interest in him, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old joined the one-time Ligue 1 Champions from Norwegian side, Lillestrøm, and scored six goals in his first ten games for Montpellier.

His brilliant start to life in France saw him linked with a move to AC Milan, but a run of poor form and an injury knocked the Nigerian off-course.

He’s up and running this season, scoring three goals and providing an assist in the league this term. Quizzed about how he felt about getting interest from a club the size of Milan, the former Sogndal man remained composed.

“I didn’t pay so much attention to it because I was just coming into the French Ligue and it could go either way, be it good or bad, but I was very positive and focused on training, learning and just doing my job, which is scoring for the team, but of course when you get a team like AC Milan watching you, for me, I see it as an incentive, not a pressure, it is to know my football is being developed in the right direction,” Adams said in an interview with Tribal Football.

Additionally, Adams admitted former West Bromwich Albion and Super Eagles striker, John Utaka, played a huge role in his move to Montpellier.

“I had other teams from Europe that were in contact with my agent Atta Aneke, also with me and Lillestrom, but Montpellier stood out because I had a very personal talk with them and they seemed to very interested and had details that I was very particular about.

Also credit to the legend – John Utaka. He also played a huge role after I spoke with him on the phone before coming. He spoke very highly of Montpellier and the values are what I cherish in the club as well,” the 11-goal Ligue 1 striker concluded.

Montpellier are in danger of relegation from the French top-flight, as they’re bottom of the league. They’ve won just two league games this season.
