Nigeria international Simy Nwankwo was on target on Sunday as Salernitana carved out a convincing 4-1 Serie B win over Carrarese, Soccernet.ng reports.
Salernitana dominated the encounter and were already leading three goals to Carrarese’s one when Simy was introduced from the bench in the 71st minute.
The 32-year-old forward made his impact felt in the 89th minute when he struck from close range to complete the scoring for Salernitana.
It was Simy’s third Serie B goal of the campaign and his 38th in the history of the Italian second division. Interestingly, Simy’s haul of 38 goals makes him Nigeria’s third-highest goalscorer in Serie B.
The former Parma star is only behind Osarimen Ebagua (62 goals) and Jerry Mbakogu (43) on the all-time list.
A living Nigerian legend in Italy, Simy was Nigeria’s greatest ever goalscorer in Serie A history before a certain Victor Osimhen arrived in Naples.
However, before Osimhen left Napoli for Galatasaray this summer, the 25-year-old’s tally of 65 goals had eclipsed Simy’s impressive haul of 34.
That figure, though, is now within touching distance of Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman who has managed 31 goals in 72 Serie A games.
Simy, who has not been invited to the Super Eagles squad since 2018, grabbed his other goals in Serie B this term against Pisa and Sampdoria.
