Ex-Man United forward Van Nistelrooy reveals why Ndidi won the MOTM award in Leicester’s win over West Ham

Wilfred Ndidi earned the Man Of The Match award following his impressive performance in Leicester's clash against West Ham United

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has explained why Wilfred Ndidi earned the Man of the Match award in the Foxes’ morale-boosting 3-0 win over West Ham United at the King Power Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles midfielder was instrumental in Leicester’s midfield, which earned him the Man of the Match award for his commanding display.

Van Nistelrooy, speaking after the game, revealed the Nigerian international’s contribution alongside Boubakary Soumaré, commending their work rate and influence during the game.

According to the former Manchester United forward, the 27-year-old was able to cover a lot of distance and win duels, which was crucial to their victory.

“Soumaré and Ndidi had an unbelievable game today, covering a lot of distance, winning a lot of balls in duels and second balls and also on the ball,” Van Nistelrooy said via Leicester’s club website. “They were giving us some good bits to play forward, so compliments to them as well.”

The win has lifted spirits at the King Power Stadium and provides a platform for Leicester to build momentum as they prepare to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. Van Nistelrooy emphasised the importance of carrying this confidence into the upcoming fixture.

“We realise how good the Premier League is and the performances we have to put in to get results,” Van Nistelrooy added. “The foundation of that togetherness and hunger to achieve something is shown today.

“That reflected in the stands and only gives the players more spirit. That was the biggest win from today. It’s something that is vital. That confidence is so important in football.”

Leicester City will hope to replicate their strong performance when they take on fifth-placed Brighton on Sunday.
