Chiamaka Nnadozie retains CAF Goalkeeper of the Year Award

Super Falcons and Paris F.C. Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie, has been crowned the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards in Morocco, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old retains the prestigious award for the second successive year after winning it last year. She recorded ten clean sheets in 28 games for club and country to clinch the award whilst also saving three penalty kicks.

She was nominated alongside Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco / AS FAR) and Andile Dlamini (South Africa / Mamelodi Sundowns), but the Paris F.C. goalkeeper got the nudge ahead of her counterparts.

Nnadozie played a vital role as the Super Falcons broke a 16-year jinx to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, helping the Nigerian team keep things tight at the back while commanding her box with excellence.

The Super Falcons’ number one thanked the CAF and Nigerian Football Federation Presidents for their contribution to growing the women’s game in Africa.

“Last year I was here, and I am here again today and grateful to God. I want to say a big thank you to the CAF President and Nigerian Football President for the work done for women’s football. Also thank you to my club, Paris F.C, who have invested a lot in me. Also, to my coaches and teammates who all made this happen. Of course, to my family and friends who have supported me from day one,” the former Rivers Angels goalkeeper said after lifting the award.

Despite winning the Goalkeeper of the Year Award, Nnadozie missed out on the CAF Team of the Year award, with the number one spot going to South Africa’s Andile Dlamini.
