“We know him inside out” – Interim Super Eagles manager eyes another victory over Gernot Rohr

Interim Super Eagles manager, Augustine Owen Eguavoen, has revealed his players will do their best to seal all three points when they take on Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic tomorrow evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 59-year-old was in charge of the Super Eagles when the claimed a 3-0 victory against the Cheetahs’ of Benin back in September and is hopeful for the repeat of such feat at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, tomorrow.

There’s no love lost between Rohr and Nigeria, as the German coached the Super Eagles between 2016 and 2021, leading them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and winning a bronze medal at AFCON 2019 tournament. Nonetheless, Eguavoen maintained the familiarity between both parties will not leave space for sentiments.

“We worked with Gernot Rohr for so many years. He was our head coach, and he’s a very good one, no doubt. He knows us in and out, he’s part of us, but we know him inside out as well.

“We know what he’s capable of, and he knows Nigeria is a country you don’t tolerate. We respect them, and we’ll play with the mindset that we come into games with and that’s to win, but it’s easier said than done.

“We’ll fight for every ball, fight for every point, and that’s what we want to do tomorrow. In respect to that, Benin is not a pushover, but we will work hard to make sure we achieve our objective,” Eguavoen said in his pre-game conference.

Kick-off time for the game is slated for 8:00 PM WAT. Nigeria return home to take on Rwanda three days later.
