Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is rapidly becoming a cult hero in Istanbul as his influence extends well beyond the football pitch, Soccernet.ng reports.
Since agreeing to join Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September, Osimhen has been embraced and adored by the club’s passionate fanbase.
Initially linked with moves to some of Europe’s elite clubs including PSG, Chelsea, and Arsenal over the summer, Osimhen ultimately found himself on a flight to Istanbul after negotiations with those clubs fell through.
Since his arrival, he has united with a Galatasaray fanbase that is arguably even more fervent than his beloved supporters in Naples.
Osimhen has certainly made an impact on the field, scoring four goals and providing four assists in his first seven appearances for Galatasaray, even equalling a long-standing club record in the process.
In response, Galatasaray fans have created numerous songs to celebrate his contributions during matches.
Interestingly, a trending video on social media captured one of Osimhen’s popular anthems being performed at a wedding in Istanbul.
As guests danced, a male singer belted out the lyrics, with Volkan Yılmaz translating the words to convey:
“My beautiful president, let’s sell the island and buy @victorosimhen9.”
This playful plea reveals the fans’ desire for the club’s directors to secure Osimhen on a permanent basis.
While there are rumours suggesting that Osimhen could leave Galatasaray in the upcoming January transfer window, the 25-year-old has dismissed such speculation.
He has made it clear that he intends to remain with the club until the season’s end, aiming to help Galatasaray defend their Turkish Super Lig title.
Looking ahead, Osimhen may again become the centre of attention during next summer’s transfer window, with Chelsea poised to lead the race for his signature.
Although the Premier League remains his dream destination, Osimhen could also consider a move outside Europe, with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia expressing long-standing interest in the striker.
