Anderlecht carried out a demolition job on KAA Gent at the Lotto Park in Brussel on Sunday with Nigerian defender Jordan Torunarigha enduring a difficult evening, Soccernet.ng reports.
Everything went wrong for Gent in this matchday 15 encounter in the Belgian First Division A as the visitors suffered a crushing 6-0 defeat to their eternal rivals.
Gent had two men sent off, including Torunarigha, and conceded an own goal as the Buffalos endured their worst defeat in more than a decade.
Goals from Mats Rits and Samuel Edozie had handed Anderlecht a two-goal cushion before Torunarigha was sent off in the 43rd minute for his second caution for a bad foul.
It is the first red card the 27-year-old centre-back will receive since moving from Germany in January 2022 to Belgium to join Gent.
The Nigeria international also enjoyed a decent defensive record in the German Bundesliga where he was only sent off twice in 73 games for Hertha Berlin.
Gent’s Matisse Samoise also followed Torunarigha to the locker room for an early shower following his dismissal in the 75th men.
Anderlecht took advantage of their numerical superiority as Kasper Dolberg bagged a brace and Francis Amuzu netted late, sandwiching a Tiago Araújo own goal.
While Torunarigha would be ruing his luck, Anderlecht youngster Edozie would be pleased with his impact in Brussels.
The Anglo-Nigerian forward on loan from Southampton, pounced on an assist from Dolberg to net Anderlcht’s second goal of the afternoon.
The 21-year-old former Manchester City attacker now boasts two goals and one assist in 10 league appearances for David Hubert’s men.
With their latest victory, Anderlecht climb to fourth on the league table with 22 points, four more than sixth-place Gent.
