West Bromwich Albion forward Josh Maja has become a prime target for La Liga clubs Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to Super Deporte, Real Sociedad have added the Nigerian international to their list of potential recruits ahead of the January transfer window, intensifying the race with Celta Vigo, who are currently leading the pursuit.
Celta Vigo are believed to be willing to match West Brom’s £16 million valuation for their in-form striker.
Maja has been instrumental for Carlos Corberán’s side, rediscovering his scoring touch with a crucial goal in the 1-1 draw against Luton Town, followed by the winner in the 2-1 victory over Hull City just before the international break.
His performances ended West Brom’s eight-match winless run and brought his tally to nine league goals this season, despite a mini-dry spell.
The interest from Spain could test Maja’s loyalty, with the lure of top-flight European football potentially hard to resist.
Maja, who previously featured in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux, joined West Brom after a 16-goal haul failed to secure promotion from France’s second tier.
While he remains pivotal to West Brom’s promotion hopes, the potential £16m windfall might be difficult for the Championship side to reject.
Despite his club form, Maja has been overlooked by Nigeria’s head coach Augustine Eguavoen for the Super Eagles’ recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The forward has not represented his country since his 2019 debut against Ukraine, a puzzling decision given his resurgence.
