Fenerbahçe right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel’s future at the Turkish club remains uncertain as contract talks continue to stall, Soccernet.ng reports.
Turkish media reports have revealed that his delay in signing a new deal is linked to personal reasons, with his girlfriend, a senior bank manager in London, playing a key role in his indecision.
The Nigerian defender has been open about his ambition to return to England, where he joined Fenerbahçe from, as he previously revealed in an interview with Soccernet.ng.
“I think everyone knows that my ambition is to play English football, to play in the [English] Premier League. No disrespect to Fenerbahçe, they’ve done so much for me here in Turkey, but my ambition is to play in the Premier League. So when I feel that the time is right for me to go, I will take it,” he said.
Although his commitment to playing in England has left Fenerbahçe in a difficult position, the 26-year-old continues to wait for the right offer. The Yellow Canaries, however, have remained firm in their talks regarding a new contract.
While Fenerbahçe focuses on mid-season transfers, Osayi-Samuel’s future remains on hold. Despite interest from clubs such as Leeds United, Brentford, Bournemouth, and even Glasgow Rangers, his relationship in London may influence his decision.
Osayi-Samuel’s contract situation has also been complicated by rumours regarding his salary demands, though he has denied claims that he is seeking €2.5 million annually.
The validity of these reports has not been confirmed by Osayi-Samuel’s camp or the club, but Fenerbahçe may be forced to cash in on the player by January or risk losing him on a free transfer if no contract is signed before next summer.
