Born to a Nigeria parent, soaring for Spain: Barcelona star who admires Asisat Oshoala wins Golden Girl award

Barcelona Femeni youngster Vicky Lopez has been crowned as the Tuttosport Golden Girl of the year, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lopez has enjoyed a steady rise in the last three years. She was born in Madrid and started her football career from the Real Madrid academy. However, she switched to the Barcelona academy in 2022.

Due to her brilliance, she quickly broke into the first team. She quickly developed a relationship with Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala and even shared pictures that they took together, calling her “My Zee”.

The 18-year-old forward made her Barcelona debut two years ago, and although she is yet to become a regular, she is slowly becoming an integral member of the team.

Lopez shone at the 2022 Under-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup, carting home the best player award in the run-up to Spain’s triumph.

Over the past year, she has grown rapidly. She registered nine goals and four assists in 23 league appearances, helping them claim the title. Now, in a new development, she has been crowned the Golden Girl of 2024 by Italian outlet Tuttosport.

Lopez has broken into the Spanish national team and has four caps for them. However, she could easily have been playing for Nigeria, as she was born to a Spanish father and a Nigerian mother. But since she has played for Spain, she can’t switch allegiances.
