Following a dazzling performance against Napoli on Sunday, Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been named in WhoScored’s Serie A Team of the Week, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman was in stellar form, scoring two goals in the opening half-hour to help Gian Piero Gasperini’s side secure a decisive 3-0 victory, handing Napoli their first defeat of the season and ending their ten-game unbeaten streak.
For his impressive display, Lookman received an outstanding WhoScored rating of 8.90 — the highest awarded to any player in Serie A this week.
The former Fulham star is joined in the Team of the Week by three Atalanta teammates: Charles De Ketelaere, Ederson, and Isak Hien.
Other notable inclusions are Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic, Fiorentina defender Luca Ranieri, Inter’s Federico Dimarco, and Bologna’s duo of Danilo Miranda and Riccardo Orsolini. Juventus stars Nicolò Savona and Khéphren Thuram round out the lineup.
Lookman’s influence stretches beyond just this weekend’s performance.
With six league goals, he is one of Serie A’s top scorers, trailing only Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui (11 goals) and Inter’s Marcus Thuram (7 goals).
The Super Eagles forward also ranks among the league’s top playmakers, with four assists, a tally surpassed only by Lazio’s Gabriel Tavares (8) and teammate De Ketelaere (5).
Notably, Lookman has achieved these numbers in just seven league starts, fewer than any other player rated above him.
His impact goes beyond goals and assists, with statistics highlighting his effectiveness in multiple areas.
Lookman leads Serie A in progressive carries, regularly driving the ball into the opposition’s half, and he ranks first in touches within the penalty area, Expected Goals (XG) without penalties, and per-90 contributions for both shots and assists.
His league-leading 1.91 non-penalty XG underscores his constant attacking threat, one that unsettles defences week after week.
With a stellar overall WhoScored rating of 7.79, Lookman currently stands as Serie A’s top-rated player, ahead of stars like Atalanta’s Retegui, Inter’s Thuram, and Lazio’s Tavares.
