Spanish La Liga club Las Palmas are mulling over a move for Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar during the winter transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
It has been a torrid past two years for Nigeria striker Umar, as his career has suffered a serious lull. The 27-year-old striker joined Real Sociedad from Almeria for a club-record €20 million.
Umar had been in great form at Almeria, and he was expected to take that to help the Txuri-Urdin. He did hit the ground running, as he scored on his debut. But unfortunately for him, he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury that ruled him out of action for over a year.
Upon his return last season, he was not the same player. Umar struggled to hit the ground running and eventually became a fringe player at Real Sociedad.
There were strong talks that the Nigerian was close to exiting Real Sociedad during the summer transfer window. However, nothing concrete emerged from those talks.
Still, not much has changed for Umar this season, as he has only appeared in six games this season. And although, he has nicked one assist, he is yet to score.
As it stands, Umar is in a bad place. And coach Imanol Alguacil cannot give him game time due to the presence of other good strikers at the club. As such, a transfer seems quite likely.
Meanwhile, recent reports from ElNuevo say that Las Palmas are actively monitoring Umar situation. They could even try to sign him in the winter transfer window.
It could be a tricky move though, as Las Palmas currently sit at the bottom of La Liga. Hence, Umar may be unwilling to leave.
In the coming weeks, Las Palmas will decide whether to sign Umar or not.
