The highly anticipated semifinal clash in the WAFU B U20 Championship between Nigeria’s Flying Eagles and Niger Republic has been rescheduled, Soccernet.ng reports.
The face-off between defending champions Nigeria and their counterpart from Niger has been moved from its original Saturday kickoff to Sunday, October 27. The match is now set for 7 pm at the Stade Kegue in Lomé.
The second semifinal will also take place on Sunday, with Ghana’s Black Satellites taking on Côte d’Ivoire at 3 pm. The game will be played at the Stade Municipal in Lome, with the winner facing the victor of the Nigeria vs Niger fixture.
A victory for Nigeria in this encounter would not only advance them to the tournament final but also secure their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
After topping Group B with a strong finish, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, will face a determined Niger side that finished second in Group A.
The Flying Eagles clinched their semifinal spot with a decisive 2-1 win over Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has boosted the Flying Eagles’ morale by donating N5 million ahead of their critical clash with Niger.
Other prominent Nigerian figures have also stepped in to back the team.
The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, contributed N2 million, and Frank Peters, Chairman of Crystal Sapphire Ltd., added N1.5 million, promising more should the Flying Eagles defeat Niger.
