Atalanta coach Gian Pero Gasperini has praised Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman following his brace for the club in their 6-1 mauling of Hellas Verona, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman has been in superb form for Atalanta since he joined the club two years ago, and he has continued with that trend this season.
The Nigerian forward was on the starting lineup when they welcomed Hellas Verona to the Gewiss Stadium, and he shone like a million stars.
Lookman provided two assists in the opening 14 minutes, helping Atalanta gain a 3-0 lead early on. The 27-year-old forward then added two goals in the 29th and 3th minute to ensure the half ended 5-0. However, coach Gasperini took him off in the 56th minute, denying him a famous hat-trick.
Nonetheless, after the game Gasperini expressed elation at Lookman’s brilliant run of form for Atalanta.
“Lookman and De Ketelaere have grown, this year they are much stronger players. After the Africa Cup of Nations Lookman had a difficult period then he exploded and now he is at those levels,” Gasperini said.
Lookman’s brilliance at Atalanta and Nigeria has made him a favorite for the CAF Player of the Year award. If he continues with his impressive form, he could get a move to a bigger club next summer.
