Augustine Eguavoen laments Super Eagles’ missed chances in victory over Libya

Interim manager of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen, has rued his team’s profilgacy in front of goal when they faced Libya yesterday evening, Soccernet.ng report.

The 59-year-old took charge of the team at the start of last month after talks with the Nigerian Football Federation and German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, ended in futility.

In September, he led Nigeria to a win over the Republic of Benin before a draw away to Rwanda. Despite setting his side up in an attacking manner yesterday, his team could only score a goal, and he was clear about his dissatisfaction.

“Emotions were high, and when the goal came, it was a huge relief. Actually, we should have scored more goals but the tactics that they deployed was compact as they defended in numbers when the ball was in their area. We were a bit slow in the first half, but the boys picked up in the second half and ball circulation became faster as instructed. The last 25 minutes was better,” the former Gent defender said as revealed by News Diary.

A win against the Mediterranean knights yesterday gave the three-time AFCON winners a push in the right direction as they look to qualify for the AFCON 2025 tournament, but they still need to be on their toes when they travel to Libya on Tuesday.

The away game will be played at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, with kick-off slated for 8:00pm WAT.
