AC Milan, Roma set for transfer battle over Super Eagles star with three Premier League caps for Chelsea

AC Milan and AS Roma are poised for a potential transfer tussle over Super Eagles defender Ola Aina, who could be set for a return to Serie A as his contract with Nottingham Forest approaches its expiration next summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to Italian source AS Roma Live via Mila Reports, the Nigerian international has become a target for both clubs due to his versatility and availability on a free transfer after the season.

Aina, 28, is currently a key player for Forest but has attracted significant interest from Milan and Roma, with both clubs reportedly looking to bolster their full-back options.

His ability to operate on either flank as both a right-back and left-back makes him an appealing option.

The report suggests that Roma see Aina as a priority signing, regardless of whether former Torino coach Ivan Juric stays at the helm.

Having made a strong impression in Serie A during his previous stints, which included 102 appearances with Torino, Aina also brings valuable Premier League experience, highlighted by his 64 appearances in England, including three for Chelsea.

His defensive versatility is especially attractive to Milan, who may see him as a potential successor to their current full-back Davide Calabria, whose future remains uncertain.

Aina joined Nottingham Forest in 2023 on a free transfer and quickly proved his worth under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, securing a one-year deal.

However, his contract situation has been closely monitored by several clubs, with Milan and Roma expected to make their moves as the January transfer window approaches.

Both teams may aim to negotiate a pre-contract agreement or explore an immediate transfer to bring the Nigerian international back to Italy in the new year.
