What Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman said after excellent Atalanta display in Fiorentina win

Nigeria's Ballon d'Or nominee revels in Atalanta comeback victory against Fiorentina

Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has expressed his joy after making a triumphant return to action for Atalanta in their thrilling 3-2 win over Fiorentina in Serie A, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following a summer filled with transfer speculation, Lookman returned to the pitch and played a pivotal role, contributing a goal and an assist in the comeback victory.

The game in Bergamo was a rollercoaster, with Atalanta trailing twice in the first half. Despite falling behind, they showed resilience to turn things around before the break.

Lookman, who had missed Atalanta’s earlier fixtures due to interest from major clubs, wasted no time making an impact upon his return.

Reflecting on his performance and the team’s form, Lookman shared his thoughts with DAZN as per TMW, saying,

“Happy to be back in front of our fans and play football here. Enjoying it, we’ve got a strong squad this season and happy to play, so we go on.”

Atalanta’s win was sealed with further goals from Charles De Ketelaere and Mateo Retegui, while Fiorentina’s Moise Kean and Lucas Martinez Quarta found the net for the visitors.

Looking ahead, Lookman also expressed excitement about their upcoming Champions League clash with Premier League giants Arsenal.

“We’re very pleased to be in the Champions League this season,” the Ballon d’Or nominee noted.

“We deserved that and have to demonstrate it. We want to show the same drive and mentality that we had today to come back from behind.”

De Ketelaere, who also played a key role in the victory, praised Atalanta’s mentality in the face of adversity.

Speaking to DAZN, the Belgian attacker said,

“Fiorentina scoring twice was difficult, but we proved that we have so much strength in this team to turn it around in the first half. We could’ve scored a fourth goal to make it easier for ourselves, but we held out and it was a great victory.”

With Lookman and De Ketelaere both relishing their form, Atalanta will be eager to carry their momentum into their European campaign.
