Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has directed a pointed remark at Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly after making a key impact for his club in Portugal, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onyemaechi netted his first goal of the season for Boavista in their dramatic 2-2 draw with Estrela in a Primeira Liga match at the Estádio José Gomes in Amadora on Monday.
The Nigeria international fullback opened the scoring for Boavista in the 23rd minute with a low, first-time finish but former Manchester United forward Nani levelled the match for Estrela ten minutes later.
Boavista regained the lead through Montenegro’s Ilija Vukotić just before halftime, only for Portugal’s Kikas to equalise in the second half, ensuring the points were shared.
Following the match, Onyemaechi took to his X account to send a cheeky message aimed at Chelsea’s Todd Boehly.
In a tweet, he wrote, “Scored my first goal of the season today, make una help me tag Todd Boehly abeg I wan see something,” playfully challenging the Chelsea owner who has been known for his extensive and often controversial spending spree.
This jest comes in the wake of Chelsea’s significant expenditure under Boehly’s ownership, which has seen the club invest over £1 billion on transfers since 2022.
Despite this spending spree, which included at least 10 new signings this summer costing £185.4m, the club has also seen approximately 20 players depart.
Manager Enzo Maresca now faces the challenge of managing a squad of 43 first-team players, adding to the complexities of his role during the 2024/25 season.
