Super Eagles interim head coach, Augustine Owen Eguavoen, alongside the team captain, William Troost-Ekong, have highlighted their aim for their AFCON 2025 qualifying clash against Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.
Eguavoen was drafted in as a temporary fix by the Nigeria Football Federation after the contract with Bruno Labbadia was rendered void due to differences in payment method.
The former Nigeria international was on touchline duties as the Super Eagles secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic, courtesy of an Ademola Lookman brace, and a brilliant finish from Victor Osimhen.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s game against Rwanda, Eguavoen repeated he wanted more of the same from the team, standing firm on his goal for all three points at the Stade Amahoro in Kigali, Rwanda.
“We play to win all the time, because Nigerians expect their team to win all the time, and because we have a team with great personnel, we play every team with respect but we don’t get intimidated by any. Our objective for Tuesday’s game is the three points,” the coach said in quotes revealed by Brila.
Ekong, sitting alongside the team’s coach during the pre-match conference, resonated with the gaffer as regards the team’s aim in Rwanda.
“We are here for a purpose. With Coach Eguavoen, who has coached the team before, we all feel like a family. We will play for each other and go for the three points that will establish us at the top of the table,” the former Watford defender added.
Kick-off time for the game is slated for 2:00PM WAT. The game against Rwanda will be the last for the Super Eagles until the next International break.
