Official: Luton Town announce the signing of Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON hero

The 33-year-old has been in Russia since 2020, but he has sealed his return to the English game

English Championship club Luton town have announced the signing of retired Super Eagles forward Victor Moses, Soccernet.ng reports.

Moses has been without a club since his last deal with Spartak Moscow expired. The versatile 33-year-old, who can play as a winger or as a fullback joined the Russian club permanently in 2021 after his deal at Chelsea expired.

Recall that during his time at Chelsea, he won the Premier League title, the FA Cup, and the Europa League under the tutelage of Antonio Conte and Rafael Benitez.

However, Moses had just one good season with the Blues, as most of his nine years with the club were spent at loan deals at other clubs. Moses had loan stints at Liverpool, Inter Milan, Stoke City, West Ham, Fenerbahce, and Spartak Moscow, who eventually signed him permanently after the expiration of his loan deal.

In Russia, he registered ten goals and ten assists in 84 appearances. The former Nigeria international had a good relationship with the club until the Russo-Ukranian war, when it got strained.

Moses’ deal with Spartak Moscow expired at the end of last season. But he has now returned to England, where his career started.

Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League have confirmed that they have signed Moses in a one-year deal.

The club will be hoping that he can help push them back into the Premier League this season. If this season is successful, they might extend his deal by the end of the campaign.

Moses was instrumental to Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title win as he contributed two goals and two assists.

He also played for Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup. But surprisingly, he called it quits after the competition at just 27 years of age.
