Moses Simon could make history today as FC Nantes prepare to face AS Saint-Étienne, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian winger is on the verge of equalling a record set by club legend Emiliano Sala if he manages to deliver another decisive performance in this crucial match.
Simon has been in remarkable form this season, demonstrating his consistency over the past four games.
He scored in Nantes’ 2-0 win against AJ Auxerre, followed by another goal during their 3-1 victory at Montpellier.
Despite a 2-1 defeat to Reims, Simon provided a key assist, and he replicated that contribution in a 1-1 draw with Angers.
According to Ouest-France as per HDM, only one other Nantes player has delivered such consistent performances in the 21st century: Emiliano Sala.
The Argentine striker, who remains a beloved figure at the club, managed to be decisive in five consecutive games twice during his time at Nantes.
Sala’s first streak came in September-October 2016, when he netted three goals against Marseille, Rennes, and Nice, while also assisting against Bastia and Lorient.
His second run of form came in October-November 2018, scoring seven goals across five matches, including Toulouse, Amiens, and Rennes, along with another assist against Angers.
Simon’s challenge is significant. A standout performance today against AS Saint-Étienne, a fierce rival of FC Nantes, would allow him to join Sala in the club’s history books.
Nantes supporters are eagerly anticipating the match, as Simon could become the first player since Sala to achieve this feat in the 21st century.
