Nigerian striker once on the books of Arsenal attracts interest from Turkey’s Goztepe

Turkish club Goztepe have reignited their interest in Bolton Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo, Soccernet.ng reports.

Goztepe have been long-term admirers of the Nigerian forward, having previously attempted to sign him during the January transfer window.

The two-time Turkish Cup winners are back for Adeboyejo, hoping to secure his signature before the Turkish transfer window closes next week, according to Football Insider.

Adeboyejo has had a slow start to the current season, scoring just one goal in five appearances across all competitions.

The 26-year-old attacker can take solace in the fact that he has mostly been used as a substitute, with only one of those appearances coming as a starter for the League One side.

Goztepe are keen to bolster their attacking options and are testing Bolton’s resolve to keep hold of the striker before Friday’s deadline.

The move however could face a little snag as Adeboyejo is currently nursing an unusual injury.

Bolton manager Ian Evatt has had to deal with a setback concerning Adeboyejo’s fitness.

The forward was recently sidelined for Bolton’s 3-2 victory over Barrow in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy after sustaining a back injury in a bizarre incident.

Adeboyejo reportedly injured himself following a “hefty sneeze,” which caused a crack between his ribs.

“He felt a crack, and we’re assessing whether it’s a muscle or cartilage issue,” Evatt said, explaining the unusual situation.

Adeboyejo’s injury comes at a delicate time, with Goztepe pushing to finalise a deal.

Despite his limited playing time this season, Adeboyejo has vast experience, having been part of the senior English football setup since 2014.

He spent his youth career at top academies like Arsenal, AFC Wimbledon, and Charlton Athletic.

With the Turkish transfer window nearing its close, Bolton may face a tough decision on whether to keep the Nigerian striker or let him make the switch to Goztepe.

Bolton signed Adeboyejo in January 2023 from Burton Albion for a reported transfer fee of €570,000.
